DDLJ would be a good choice.

reply

reply

Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Vaastav, or Munnabhai (either)

reply

not unless you're into mushy chick flick.

reply

Being Cyrus.
Brilliant performances,great story n cast.

reply

kank nottttttttttt i would pick sarkar

reply

Sure Sarkar.

reply

Rang De BaSanti. or
Raja Hindustani.

reply

DDLJ.

reply

sholay.. cant think of anything else more indian and bollywoodish

reply

Sholay is a rip-off from a Hollywood movie

reply

which hollywood movie?

reply

Wrong! Sholay was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" (a Japanese movie) and Sergio Leone's "Spaghetti Western" movies (Italian movies), none of which were made by Hollywood. Also, every movie borrows ideas from other movies, so we might as well call every movie a "rip-off" according to your twisted logic.

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???!!!!!"

reply

How about Omkara....it has everything....

reply

that may be one of these:
golmaal (old)
jaane bhi do yaaron
munnabhai mbbs
lage raho munnabhai
pushpak
bawarchi
etc. etc

reply

I have taken a lot of friends who haven't watched Bollywood movies before they met me, and the one movie I have seen take their breath away was Rang De Basanti. They talked about that movie for months, and every single one of the 14 people (none of them even remotely Indian) I went to watch that movie with ordered a DVD online when it came out.

reply

I would probably say Kuch Kuch Hota Hai..

reply

mainstream - kuch kuch hota hai, kabhi khushi..., and so on
obscure - ardh satya, saaransh, suraj ka satva ghoda etc..

reply

I think "Bride and Prejudice" is good Bollywood Lite, for those not exposed to Indian cinema. Smooths the transition a bit. After that I would probably second a lot of the suggestions here and add "Devdas", or anything else that stars Madhuri Dixit.

You killed my family, and I don't like that kind of thing.
