You don't believe this is real life? I hear it's so bad back in Russia that you can be sitting in a restaurant and find yourself robbed any time of the day! Lawlessness is the norm there, Mexico, and South America; SORRY! Human life means nothing to certain types like this! Look at them sideways, your whole family might be killed! It's can be thought of as propaganda, but there are elements of truth in these depictions! If judges, politicians, and cops aren't under the thumb of mobsters, their lives probably wouldn't be worth squat! ;-(

I hear it's so bad back in the USA that you can be sitting in a restaurant, shopping mall, school, library, movie theater, etc. and all of a sudden a maniac with an arsenal of guns, assault rifles and other weaponry can get there and randomly open fire against innocent people, not even to rob them, or for some other profitable reason, only because he is insane. Your whole family can get killed for NO reason while they are doing their christmas shopping! And clearly human lives means NOTHING to these types, what's worse, REGULAR people (theoritically sane) still insist in everyone having easy access to this type of weaponry!

Oh, wait, so you are telling me that ALL russians are like those guys (whose regime and the government they established collapsed more than 20 years ago incidentally)? And they aren't even people since you typed that word in quotes, right?

Well, if we are going by generalizations, then americans are genocidal maniacs because they systematically exterminated native americans and stole their lands and put them in reservations, they are racist pricks and criminals considering the fact that over 600 hate groups operate within its boarders (no other country in the planet has that quantity of hate groups), they are psychopaths since they often go on random killing rampages (more than in any other country in the planet).

Be careful with generalizations, because they cut both ways, and you will find that if we are to apply your bigoted and ignorant mindset to everyone, then you should also refer to americans as "people" when you write about them.

the Native American's died mostly of disease. and they didn't own jack *beep* native tribes didn't believe in personal ownership of land. they were nomadic people who burned the resources from the land and then moved on.

I imagine it is a matter of perspective, we could argue that an RPG is a "sports weapon" if using it against people becomes so frequent that the activity can be considered as a "sport".

Teddy the villain wasn't supposed to have depth. Even Denzels old colleague who helped him get info said "he's basically a sociopath with a business card". What did you expect sleazy gangsters and thugs to be like as someone asked, they were after all gangsters and thugs who beat women and even we're told, poured battery acid in one girls face and kept her around as a reminder what can happen.

The particular Russians he deals with in this film ARE sleazy gangsters and thugs. What, when you see a film in which the Irish mob is portrayed you think it's saying all Irish are like that?

Sheesh. Calling a bad person a bad person does not mean you are calling PEOPLE bad. Good lord.

Actually, the Russians' criminal organization was quite sophisticated--they had bribed the Boston PD and the Irish mob to operate within a particular sector with impunity and they had many other illegal businesses in addition to prostitution. They had gasoline, weapons girls, and other criminal activity on every coast in the USA and probably worldwide. The amount of money they were laundering bordered on cartoonish, but it takes a great many off the books transactions to fill a warehouse with $20's and $100's. The pimp Russian was pretty sleazy, I'll grant you that, but the others were quite savvy, especially Teddy. Teddy was a stoic killing machine like McCall, which is why they made such a good matchup. Everything Teddy told the cops about McCall was 100% true--he read him cold and actually called out every tactic (killing the pimps in their office, watching them while faking flight to safety, finding him at Homemart, etc.) while the BPD had their thumbs in their mouths.

If you'll watch the movie again, you'll see that Teddy eventually wants to kill McCall to satisfy his own ego and preserve his bad guy rep rather than simply being a button being pushed by Pushkin to solve a problem. Teddy is genuinely impressed by McCall when he first looks at the crime scene photos because one man did so much damage so efficiently. It's his first intelligent foe in a long time and he's excited by the prospect of combat just like Mccall.
