Thank you, nearly everything I wanted to say has already been said in this thread. Shame, she was gorgeous in 'Twister' and 'Mad about you', still, nothing a few pork pies wouldn't cure to bulk her out a bit.
shareShe intentionally made the character look haggard in the film. She playing a woman whose husband left her and her mother died the next day. In interviews for the film she looks great. I'm glad that she had the courage to not look good, which added to the realism of the story. (though it wasn't realistic for Firth's character to tell her she was gorgeous.)
As for Bette Midler looking younger, she's playing a TV star. Of course she is going to make sure she looks good all the time. She's had work done, so has Midler in real life.

She was supposed to be 39 and Colin Firth's character said that she looked 34-35. Well,then according to those standards I look 18 :P (I'm 34).
