She was just joking. Why tf can't you people get it?
IMHO She clearly wasn't joking. Just by her wording, it just doesn't read like a joke at all.
I'm not judging her either, I think it was a perfectly legit comment that some people took wrong. I think like others said, she was directing the comment at the people deciding who gets the award, who for whatever reason decide to keep giving it to the same people over and over, despite there being plenty of others who are as deserving or more so. That MUST be annoying to LOTS of people.
Initially I also took it as if it were directed at Louis-Dreyfus instead of where it was intended. In
that context it certainly could be taken as rather bitchy.
It was just poorly worded either way. Whether it was meant as a joke or a critique of the award committee(s) it could definitely have been worded better to make that clear. But hey, she's human.
One thing most of us are guilty of at one time or another is expecting others to know what we mean, because hey, it's crystal clear to US. Not realizing that our word choice could be taken another way or two.
What I
don't see is how
anything here could be construed as having anything to do with political correctness.
