Paget Brewster shows her true colors

Last night on Twitter Paget Brewster made one of the most jealous and petty comments when Julia Louise Dreyfus won her Emmy....

@pagetpaget
I'm not trying to be a a bitch and I bet Julia Louise Dreyfuss is lovely but after your 3rd Emmy maybe let someone else win one ?

I think this show's the caliber of Paget's character. There's nothing there that even remotely comes across as being 'funny' or 'silly'... it comes across as Jealous and Petty loud and clear though.

The Emmy's do this a lot they reward the same people and shows over and over. I prefer it when they mix it up more.

Personally I think Julia is one of the best actresses in television but I understand the point PB is making.

reply

I agree. But if she has a problem with the people who decide who wins an Emmy she should direct her comment at them not Julia Louis-Dreyfus. While she may have a valid point, she made it in a way that seemed petty and personal.

reply

So. Where do you get that she was even trying to be funny of silly? It sounds to me like she was just trying to point out a problem within these awards. The fact that the same people win over-and-over again no matter what they're show/movie does while others who may have done a better acting job are not even considered. She wasn't asking for herself to win, she was just asking for someone else to be given the chance. It's not unlike politics where the same people win their position year-after-year simply because they're the known quantity.

I guarantee she's not the only one thinking the same thing - just the one who had enough guts to say it!

reply

I agree that awards shows often favor certain actors/actresses, performers and shows. It would be nice to see others get the chance and opportunities to be nominated/win. So I get Paget thinking that and wishing that things were mixed up. And of course if that's her opinion she's allowed to have it and state it.

I think it's possible that people are upset at Paget because the way her Tweet is worded makes it seem like it's directed at Julia. I'm not 100% sure how awards shows nominations works. I think the actors and actresses can submit work they want for consideration. But even when actors and actresses submit work for nominations, there are still people who choose who the final nominees are, and it's a group of people that choose who the winners are. So really, it's that selection committee and the shows in general that the complaints should be directed at, not the actors and actresses. It's not like the actors and actresses choose themselves to win. They all have a chance and deserve to submit their work, but after that, it's in the hands of the selection committee.

Now I don't know if Paget actually meant to direct her tweet at Julia or not, but the way it's worded makes it seem that way. I agree with not being behind how these awards shows work, but I don't think it's fair to put the blame on the people who win.

reply

She was just joking. Why tf can't you people get it?
I don't like Paget, but I don't judge her by this tweet.
She can tweet whatever she thinks.
I hate political correctness and twitter stupid grandma's correctness. *beep* it. Who cares?

IMHO She clearly wasn't joking. Just by her wording, it just doesn't read like a joke at all.

I'm not judging her either, I think it was a perfectly legit comment that some people took wrong. I think like others said, she was directing the comment at the people deciding who gets the award, who for whatever reason decide to keep giving it to the same people over and over, despite there being plenty of others who are as deserving or more so. That MUST be annoying to LOTS of people.

Initially I also took it as if it were directed at Louis-Dreyfus instead of where it was intended. In that context it certainly could be taken as rather bitchy.

It was just poorly worded either way. Whether it was meant as a joke or a critique of the award committee(s) it could definitely have been worded better to make that clear. But hey, she's human.

One thing most of us are guilty of at one time or another is expecting others to know what we mean, because hey, it's crystal clear to US. Not realizing that our word choice could be taken another way or two.

What I don't see is how anything here could be construed as having anything to do with political correctness.

reply

Yea, but why not direct the comment at the award committee?

"But you know what's an even more interesting question, what's the psychopath got in the bag Jason?"

reply

Hey delusional grandma.
Since you hate CM so much now, then stop careing about everything CM related.
You morons are JEALOUS with remaining cast, but spreading your delusions and hate won't change TG assaulted a douche and he was reasonably fired!

reply

I have to agree. Paget was just saying what many think. I stopped watching or even giving any weight to the Emmys when they cut out Hugh Laurie. I also think there's a line some people are crossing when it comes to Thomas Gibson. He is not your close personal friend, he's an actor. Let it go.

reply

Why bring your hostility and insults and other arguments into this?
This doesn't have anything to do with TG, and there's no real reason to make the ASSumption that it does. And people have the right to care and comment about whatever they choose. Your suggestion that someone can't have an opinion about anything CM related because they hate it now because of TG's firing is pretty inane.
Just sayin'

Kinda looking like maybe you're getting a little stalky...

Hi, may I call you Bart?

You must be new to this board. Just as a friendly FYI, pay absolutely no attention to mgubelove; that poster is a known nut job (troll) with multiple past identities and for a long time, bad-mouthed Shemar Moore endlessly. I have him on Ignore, as do many others here. Engaging with him is an exercise in futility.

Hello,
You may call me whatever you like, so long as you never call me late for dinner.
Thanks for the tip! No sense feeding the trolls.

Everyone should get to take home a participation medal or statue of some sort, and we should not not place our focus too much on those who do the best job. 

reply

participation medal? that's called a paycheck

all of these actors get paid to do what they do; it's not a competition

awards beyond that are for exceptional performances

participation medals? that's what you give to morons and cry babies to shut them up

reply

^this! It gets annoying when the same people/shows win over and over.

reply

I stopped watching awards shows years ago. I never quite understood the appeal. If I like a show, I watch it. I don't care if the show or an actor wins something for it.

Ya, I kinda agree with her. There are some many great performances that are getting overlooked because the same people keep getting nominated.

I love trolls, they taste like chicken.

This thread is so insane I thought OP was AmericanChampion

Thing is it's all over the entertainment mags saying the same thing. It's not that they're angry or resent her for winning. It's just to give someone else a chance, who may not be in their roles as long. Sort of like whenever Streep is nominated, everyone else goes "there goes my chance".
