Save your eyesight for Edward + Mrs. Simpson from 1980!

This version from 2005 was just a flimsy remake of a really good mini series.

Edward Fox was perfect as the Duke (even LOOKED like him, imagine that!) and Cynthia Harris was just ugly enough to make you wonder what the heck he was thinking when he gave up his crown and throne for the woman he loved!
Nothing against Cynthia Harris... she is quite lovely in real life, but certainly could pull off the unlovely and neurotic Wallis.
And why end with the wedding? So much more happened afterwards. The snubbing by all the royal family (almost a banishment), Wallis's endless spending, the Duke's involvement and interest with Germany & Hitler, their rather shallow society life, their many houses and style of living, etc.
Not that the 1980 version goes into this period either, but the Duchess was still alive and perhaps out of respect for her they refrained.
But this new version could have easily shown their later life.

I agreed. I wished there was a movie tv or cinema that would cover their lives after the abdication. I have not seen the 2005 version only the 1980 and the one that starred Jane Seymour. Out of curiosity since I missed this one that was shown on BBC America three years ago I would like to see it. I guess the events after 1936 would be too shameful.

i thought it was very dull. mainly i thought Wallis was hopelessly bland - no sign of any character, wit, charm, whatever captivated edward. She must have been more interesting than the dull character portrayed by Richardson.

There are so many half truths and outright lies. This film doesn’t try to be faithful, accurate or truthful.
