'No music, voiceover or special effects'

Except for, ya know, that scene where meth-head lies to the 'John' inside of that Maxima. So, either this mans voice was caught on the mic in the most roomy and echo-worthy car of all time, or the filmmakers didn't find it necessary to include a title-card or something to let us know we were going to be hearing a bad actor recite lines that may or may not have emerged out from that poor perverted dumbass in the car with Michelle. I'd have much preferred a preface letting the viewer know that we were about to experience some necessary reenactment rather than to pretend that that *beep* was actually coming from the same car and hoping no one would notice. This instance is pretty damaging to a film that purports itself to be a kind of all in-camera/on-location "unflinching truth" kinda thing, as anyone who has done even five minutes in sound editing could pick it out as being totally fake. It actually made me question the reality of the entire film, which, in my opinion, negates every single thing that the filmmakers were trying to achieve.

I picked up on that right away too.

I believe what they meant was that there wasn't any narration included.

IDK if I would go to that extreme as far as questioning the reality of the film or feeling the point of the film was negated. But I did notice right away that this scene and in particular, the guy talking, seemed fake AF and totally out of place.

reply

I thought he sounded fake as well. Pretty lame considering they show guys blowing each other 😂
