Why?

Are you all being so negative? Just because the movie isn't groundbreaking or true to life or hard hitting does not mean that its bad.
I just watched it with a 12 year old boy and a 4 year old girl and we all loved it!
If you need a movie to have credibility to "enjoy" it you should re-think your criteria imho.

Too right, they are all too keen to be cool and edgy to enjoy themselves ; )

I agree!
Sometimes a cigar is just a smoke, and a movie is just entertainment.

Be yourself, everyone else is taken

Agreed. Good entertainment. Those who think Robin Williams wasn't funny in this movie don't know the comedian or his work. He was his usual self :-)

Well, i know Robin and his movies and love most of his work.
But i still dont think he is funny in RV. I actually thought his "humor" was a bit annoying in this movie.
If this came out in the mid 90s, it could be so funny.
Sadly his type of slapstick humor feels a bit unmodern today, thats why this move isnt that great.

It's not good entertainment.

As a movie, it's not good. It's mediocre.

It's not even entertainment, as it's not particularly entertaining. It's not as boring as it could be, but it's more cringy than entertaining for the most part.

This movie is exceptional in one way; I have never seen ANYTHING as square middle in the 'mediocre' spectrum as this movie.

I have seen better movies, I have seen worse movies, but I hve never, ever seen a more mediocre movie in my life.

However, people are right when they say this movie seems different on the second viewing. I watched it again after a year or so, and it's actually a bit better than I remember (but still not actually good). It's almost like a very different movie on the second viewing.

There's nothing in this movie that would raise it above mediocrity - Robin Williams is a comedic genius, but in this movie, he just seems to try to force stale jokes through heavy depression, and go through the motions.

The wife is very good, of course, as we know her from Curb Your Enthusiasm - her performance is probably 100% what this movie needs, but all in all, forgettable.

The kids are lackluster and easy to forget completely (as I indeed did during the year). I researched a bit into the whole 'Jojo' thing, and she can sing, but she doesn't have 'charisma' or beauty, she's not cute or very feminine. I suppose as a grumpy teenage daughter, she's perfect for the role, but I wouldn't want her to be my daughter, and I certainly wouldn't want to have anything to do with her.

The ending thing proves she knows how to sing better than the rest of the cast, but so what, lots of people can. Her acting is good, though, she's very believable as the sister or daughter you absolutely hate (for good reasons).

It's hard for me to even understand how someone can't realize how wrong they are praising this movie so much, when their rationale for it is that a four year-old loved it just as much as some teenager did. Talk about LCD.

I watched this with my kids aged 16 down to 6 yrs and we all laughed, its good old fashioned slap stick comedy without the frills of special effects, too many movies including comedies rely on FX to get the laughs, sometimes you just need the joke and simple visuals.

I think people just don't like it casue the kids are annoying and the main reason is that it's not FUNNY!!!

You are so right andrewdish. I also didnt liek it becase of robin williams! Dont get me started on him.

I like Robin Williams, although I didn't like his character in this movie, and I definitely didn't like his kids who came across as spoiled and bratty and used to a somewhat finer lifestyle than they were getting in the RV. We have 3 kids around that age, and I have never ever had them say they hate us! I watched it on cable with the kids, and none of us liked his family, but we did laugh at some bits and pieces, so it was OK.

Then you're not a good parent.
