you guys are all idiots!

This is NOT A MOVIE!!!! it is a piece of art. Matthew Barney is an artist. He has done many films before in his past, this one just happens to feature his girlfriend Bjork. This film is just his vision and his thoughts. He is an installation artist who designs, sculpts, paints and directs. There is no way in HELL that his film will ever be released in theatres. NOR will it ever be for sale on dvd. HA! like i said, its his artwork. Think of it as a famous painting or something. His previous peices (the cremaster cycle) were only viewed through exhibits in museums...exactly like it should be. A previous of copy of The Cremaster Cycle goes for about $50,000+ if not more. I live in San Francisco, where Matthew Barney was born and raised and he will be installing this piece of art in late June of 2006 at the SFMoMa...I think he might have a few more exihibits in the US, maybe in London and I know he had one in Japan a while back and of course in Iceland.

but just so you all know. IT WILL NEVER be released at the movie theatre at your local mall along side of "dumb & dumber" and "lord of the rings"....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but i live in Mexico and DR9 and ALL the Cremaster Cycle will be on theatres next week.

Cremaster screened at Film Forum in NY and it is also available on DVD.

Drawing Restraint 9 has a limited release and has screenings in the festival circuit. The guy that started this thread has no clue idea whats going on. He read abit about Barney and fancies himself an expert. The Cremaster Cycle as a whole was indeed never released on DVD, but part 3 "The Order" was.

"The Order" is only 30 minutes from the full 3 hour length of Cremaster 3. And it is probaby one of my least favorite parts of the film.

reply

You can buy the 3 hour version anywhere.

Do you have a copy of the 3 hour version ? I doubt that...

reply

My buddy gave me the entire cycle. It really isnt that hard to find if you really look.

reply

You cannot buy any of the Cremaster films, in their entirety. This was because they are not so much films as works of art, and were therefore sold to collectors instead of production companies, and later, the end user. I'm sure most of you already knew this.

To the original poster: No valid argument, on any topic, can start with "you guys are all idiots!"

reply

Wow are you ever a frigging moron.

This flick is playing at my local theatre in Orlando...right alongside Ultraviolet, Failure to Launch and Date Movie.

I think your post makes you appear to be the biggest dick in the history of the world.

Oh...and it took me all of roughly 45 seconds to find the entire Cremaster series on DVD. I guess I'll have to hang it on my wall though...since it's not a movie.

reply

The Cremaster series has not been, and likely never will be, officially released on DVD. All that has been released is "The Order," a 30 minute segment from Cremaster 3. If you have found the entire series on DVD you are either 1) lying, 2) being lied to by a shady ebay seller, or 3) about to buy a piece of *beep* bootleg filmed by some guy with a handicam in the theater. So, if you'd like to provide links, please do.
The Cremaster Cycle was released in a very limited # on DVD and sold to art collectors; think of it like original printings of paintings. These sold for thousands and thousands of dollars to private art collectors (and probably some museums). There was talk of doing a box set to be made to be available to the general public, but when the original collectors found out, they threw a hissy fit. They did not want Joe Schmo to buy for $50 what they had bought for $50,000. So, no Cremaster box set.

reply

I'll let you know how it looks when it gets here.

Nice to know that "Joe Schmo" won't be allowed to enjoy this.

reply

I didn't say that's how *I* felt, but that's how the collectors look at things. To them, we are peons.

I do see, however, that someone's got a Torrent of the whole thing available. I've heard the quality is OK, although 3 suffers (looks like VHS rather than the smooth HD to film of the theatrical version)

If I were you, I'd save my money and download the torrent. It's likely from the same source as whatever bootleg you're buying.

he actually sold Laser Discs of the Cremaster cycle... and he only sold ten of them for $100,000 each (so he ended up losing a lot of money as the cycle cost more than $1 mllion)... he also installed the theatre systems into those ten peoples houses so that they could view them according to his instructions... and he made special packaging for each film (by casting the cases in wax, vaseline, glass, etc...) so the packaging was an extension of the film...

... Oh how silly you sound

reply

so a movie isn't art? interesting.

Sticky 805

Your attitude is sickining, you seem really full of yourself. Im sad to say it, but it is a movie. Its an artwork to, but its a film too. And it will be shown at cinemas, this is more wider then The Cremaster Cycle.

By the way, The Cremaster Cycle is to be found on DVD. At least some of it, og pirate DVDs, but its still the movie.

reply

small bone to pick with your silly rant, but while Barney was born in SF, he was raised in Idaho...bout the only artistic person to come from there

reply

So it turns out that you're an even BIGGER dick than we thought.

"I live in San Francisco, where Matthew Barney was born and raised"

excpet fo the fact that he was born in Idaho.

reply

what i really like is that sticky 805 hasn't responded to any of these postings. Oh, he probably feels really stupid. I think I'd delete my posting if I got my trash handed to me by everyone. congradulations, you're the Tool of the Year, and if it's a trailer released on apple.com, chances are it will be in theatres and on dvd, smart guy.

reply

Ah, so now "art" is supposed to be only for a select few?
Those were the days when freedom was enough for everyone to enjoy a piece of art. Apparently now the dungheaded pricks are the ones with a license to it. >-P

reply

When were those days? Art has always been primarily produced for the elite.

reply

I live in Mexico and they sell the entire Cremaster Cycle series in a popular pirate DVD market. I got it for 20 bucks and it has special features and everything.

reply

NICE ONE!!!
