Why did The Expendables and Eat Pray Love make more money?

This movie came out the same day as The Expendables and Eat Pray Love. Unfortunately, a super dull and generic action movie, and a long, boring, and generic Julia Roberts movie made more money than one of the most unique and clever films to come out of Hollywood in a long time. Why did people choose those two movies over this?

Maybe if they released it in a month or a week when there wasn't any blockbusters out it would of done well. I think it should of been pushed forward or back so it didn't get squashed

Lowest common denominator. Scott Pilgrim was a film brimming with nostalgia for 80's and 90's games. It was original and funny.

I watched the Expendables thinking the heroes would die one by one. Because, you know, they're expendable? Advertised as a parody of 80's action flicks, but instead we got a straight example. Every single one survives. And people have the gall to call it a brave movie.

I think the previews killed this movie. The preview made it look so ridiculous and stupid. It's a terrific movie, but seeing snippets of the fight between Jason Schwartzman and Michael Cera made it seem lame.
