So intentionally cruel, I had to stop watching

I'm referring to this scene:

Borat: [indicates women beside him] In my country, they would go crazy for these two.
[points to minister's wife]
Borat: This one... not so much...

I've never been accused of having a temper, but that scene made me angry.
To say that to someone as a joke...unforgivable.

I hope that was supposed to be an Ali G reference, evgenytunikov.

If I begin to die, please take this off my head. This is not the way I wish to be remembered.

reply

The scene isn't as cruel as people who share their frustrations on the internet so that i have to read it

reply

I agree. Cohen is intentionally cruel to so many in the movie that were trying to help. Really painful to watch. The one that came out looking the worst was Cohen himself.

So the scenes where he belittled women and jews in Kazakhstan didn't set you off, but when he tarnished the reputation of high society at a dinner party did?

You should recheck your moral priorities methinks.

"...and I looked up, to the vast expanse and majesty of the Cosmos, and was humbled."

reply

LOL Please. Some poor, little overgrown Southern debutante got a prank pulled on her, and you get all offended? Personally, I think it's about time somebody woke these pinheads up from their life of Mint Juleps and big hats. Painful to watch? That says a lot about you - namely that it could have just as likely been YOU trying to teach him how to wipe himself. Get over yourself, goldenskies.

And, in case nobody's picked up on this, Cohen is a Jew. A big part of the humor in this movie is a satirical look at anti-semitism, but, I guess you have to have a sense of humor to understand that.

"Hobson, I'm going to take a bath." "I'll alert the media."

ye they never stop whining about antisemitism you're correct.

That scene was hilarious HAHAHA I watched it like 4 times

reply

That was one of the most brilliant scenes in any comedy movie ever made.

That women's husband was really pissed .

if you want to find some quality friends you have to wade through all the d**ks first

reply

"the woman was ugly, at least someone said it to her face, and get the stick out of your ass, and get a life"

Uh no. She actually looked like a normal person you'd see walking down the street. And no, you don't say it to someone's face, because it's polite. I've met plenty of guys with tiny dicks but I don't bring it up at the dinner table.

That said, the point of Borat is to be stupid, superficial, and sexist. Yeah it's offensive. But that's the point. Don't like it? Don't watch it, because nothing is going to change.

reply

Actually, the film isn't sexist at all. Borat's character is sexist, because he was born, and raised that way. The main intention of this film is to make you think on political correctness, by showing someone who doesn't evenh know what it is. This film is feminist, in the way that it depicts the most important female charactor, Luenell, as the only person who is nice to Borat and treat him like a normal human being. She is the less prejudiced character.

That part made me cringe a bit too. Yeah it was funny and all but saying a thing like that to a woman even as a joke is bound to sting like hell.
