To the first post, I'm with you on this.
I wish someone would start a petition, it's on 7:00 PM on a Sunday Night. That's a good time, so why do they have this crap on.

I recently had a conversation with a classmate of mine.

Me: What show do you like more?
Guy: What?
Me: Mythbusters or Brainiac?
Guy: Oh yeah, Brainiac. Mythbusters is boring
Me: What? How can you say that? Brainiac just has more explosions!
Guy: Yeah, and boobs


I agree that Brainiac is a decent show, but it pales if you try to compare it with Mythbusters.

WWE, which used to be called WWF I believe. Its entertainment, yeah?

Now its also called "World Wrestling". While it does have wrestling moves in it occasionally, nobody takes it seriously as a wrestling competition. Its an entertaining (some seem to think), overly-aggresive, violent and sometimes funny TV show.

This show, Brainiac: Science Abuse, is firmly tongue-in-cheek - and they make no secret about it! The very fact that you mention "so many variables" that they don't take account of, proves that you don't get the point of it.. even slightly.

"So let me get this right, it’s a show which according to you is just tongue in cheek so it makes no sense. These guys just do acts which are completely irrelevant because there is no scientific support to back up anything they say. So at the end of a show everything is just incorrect and your just meant to laugh at its stupidity, well that sounds like a great show."

The trick is to not take it too seriously - imagine yourself as a 10-year-old boy.. full of questions about things... like what would happen if I put object x into a microwave?! Brainiac answers this for you! Most adults watching would know the answers to 90% of the questions in the show, but that doesn't stop people wanting to see the results anyway! Pyrotechnics and explosions are fun. Constructive desctruction(!) is fun!

Its not funny enough to be a pure tongue-in-cheek comedy at the same time its not scientifically sound enough to be an educationally program. And hey - for us older 'kids' who like the female form, there are the gratuitous scantily-clad women too. Its like The A Team and Baywatch combined! lol Explosions and babes! And not only that, but you learn stuff from it too.. or at least remember things you had forgotten about the properties of certain chemicals etc.

Quite frankly the girls on that show should be ashamed of themselves they should go do something more profitable rather then help guys jerk off. And talking of being smart, I happen to believe that some very smart humour comes from the USA. Friends is funny. Frasier is smart and funny, as is Seinfeld. The Simpsons is genius!

While we "Brits" may have some smart comedy, we also have our slapstick (Benny Hill I believe became quite popular in the US) and our surrealist comedy (Monty Python).

Meanwhile, relax and enjoy the show. And some of the 'experiments' I've noticed do actually have *some* merit.. occasionally!

Please do not in any way try and convince people that these experiment hold any scientific truth, there are sooo many variables left unattended that nothing truthful can be pulled from these experiments."

Its throwaway TV, and its great at that job. I don't sit down and watch it religiously, but when I do find its on, it passes my time very well.

First of all, everything is science.

I didn't like this show when it first appeared on G4, but I've since grown to love it.Explosions, hot women,add some little, meaningless experiments and you've got yourself a good show. You don't like the show? Then watch something on an educational channel. If this were targeted as a science show and only a science show, they would completely miss their demographic. If it were a comedy show, it would be another miss. But this can appeal to so many types of people, from pyromaniacs to moms who want their kids to watch something at least semi-educational.
