Well - there's the ole' Capital Punishment question for you. I do think that using old Sparky is pretty barbaric in this day and age, and indeed I don't believe in Capital punishment at all - even for people like Bin Ladin. People are all with this the "eye for an eye" stuff...yeah it's 'In the Bible.' What they conveniently forget is that eye for an eye is part of the Old Convenenant, which Jesus abolished when he set out the new covenant before he was crucified.

Jesus actually also says that 'whoever hates a man has murdered him in his heart.'

No, I don't think Old Sparky is barbaric. I think electrocution should have priority over Lethal Injection.

Jared portrayed his character very well...

He seems to pull off what he says as the

"failure of humanity" so well... it's the passion he has for his work...

You could see it in his eyes.. as if he killed those women and he felt guilt.

Very sad and bitter ending...

I didn't feel any sympathy for him at all. They were both conniving, murdering terrible people. The worst scum on this earth. I normally lean against the death penalty, but I was looking forward to it in this movie. Not that it somehow justified what he did, or made it any more fair. Killing him didn't help anything, I just didn't think he deserved to live. It is funny how he tried to run like a coward and tried to fight death like a coward after he so unwaveringly took all those lives prior.

i think it's the not being able to separate the character from the actor... some people would watch the execution scene and go "poor jared don't kill him"...

ray and martha deserve no sympathy for what they did, and whether you believe in capital punishment or not they still got punished in the end...

i think jared was great in this pic and doesn't get much recognition for his acting and his willingness to take risks in the roles he chooses (he could have continued on with 'pretty boy' roles after urban legend)... except for her interogation scene at the end i feel the salma hayek was badly miscast...

I just saw this film on Showtime. There was a much older film made about this real-life disgusting couple back in the late 50s early 60s. Can't remember the title, right now.

Anyway, I felt ZERO sympathy for him or her. They were complete scum, and used and killed countless women...and a CHILD. My favorite part of this movie was when they dragged his cowardly pathetic ass, kicking and screaming, to the electric chair. THAT was justice!

I feel sympathy for those lonely woman that were tricked into thinking they'd found someone that actually cared for them. I feel sympathy for a little girl whose mother was murdered, who was abused, and then coldly and ruthlessly killed herself.

This was an ugly film, not easy to watch....but, considering the subject matter...well done.

Edit. I want to make a correction. The older film I mentioned in the first part of my post is titled "The Honeymoon Killers", and was made in 1970...not the 50s or 60s :) It was actually a pretty good film, and the actors were much closer in appearance to the real people than those in "Lonely Hearts".

This is how I see it.
You killed a man for killing. You done the same thing he did, so by your rules, you deserved to be killed too.

At some points i felt bad for him,because of Salma´s hayak character,she was so manipulative,i felt sorry for him especialy when salma makes him kill that woman to show her how much he loves her

My only regret is that he didn't yell, scream and kick more. Overall, I enjoyed it.
