ELVIS VS THE BEATLES

If Elvis and the Beatles had a 'sing-off' as I like to call it, who would win? I say Elvis because he had the voice and the moves to wipe out all four of the Beatles.

reply

You can't really compare the two because Elvis, is one man, whereas the Beatles are 4. One person can't do all the stuff a group can do like play all the instruments. Both are great. Both are legends. Both will live on Forever. If there were to be a stand off, Id say Elvis vs Buddy Holly. again, both are great. I couldn't choose between them.

As a singer I might give Elvis the edge, even though McCartney is very good.
But as songwriters and musicians The Beatles win hands down.

reply

From all asepcts The Beatles were far better.

reply

Some aspects but not all,not at all...

reply

No not on all aspects are The Beatles better. I also forgot in my earlier post to say I think Elvis was the better live performer.

reply

Are you for real?? I think you need to have your ears checked.
The Beatles were great, yes. But they can not touch Elvis. John Lennon was by far the best Beatle, he sounded better and he wrote better than McCrapney too.
But as far as Elvis goes, NO ONE touches him. Especially not the Beatles...

reply

McCrapney? Are you twelve? You only make yourself sound like an immature crazed fan.

Whoever pointed out the influence that they had on each other is, in my opinion, closest. Personally I prefer the Beatles, but that doesn't mean that they were better...this is an Elvis board, so of course more people are going to side with him. The fact is that they were both great at the times of their popularity. Elvis had to come first, to bring rock music to where the Beatles could pick it up. Both are acknowledged as rock n' roll greats.

Also, someone pointed out that Elvis's career spanned 22 years. Very impressive, but the volume of music that the Beatles released in their 10 years was downright amazing and left enough to leave a permanent crater that marked where they've been in musical history.

reply

The Beatles were great. But only thanks to John Lennon. Paul was and still is, an ignorant human being, Lennon himself said that, as close as they were, Lennon was forever saying that he didn't like the way Paul was. While Lennon had time for his fans, and for anybody that he came in contact with, Paul would always FAKE his way through it, pretending he cared, but behind the scenes he would cuss the fans out.

THAT in my opinion is not a true artist. He may have some talent, but its not always the talent that makes a star. It is the humanity and persona and kindness. THAT is a star. And Lennon and Presley had the true gifts of being a star.

reply

Both acts were truly amazing. What's more amazing, as someone pointed out earlier, is that the Beatles accomplished what they did in less than ten years, and Elvis took over 20 to accomplish what he did. I personally prefer Elvis, but the Beatles were good too.

reply

ELVIS PRESLEY would knock out all the beatles within 10 seconds.

THE BEATLES are losers who said they were bigger than jesus

Elvis lasted 22 years and if i wasnt for his death he would have continued his career

Elvis still lives today in out hearts

reply

Apples and oranges. Elvis is a different type of singer. Although I recall on a show Sinatra sang Elvis and Elvis sang Sinatra. He can sing Sinatra's song (My Way, etc) very well.

IMO, no one can touch The Beatles musically- not even The King. I grew up a Beatles fanatic, and still think they are the best band ever to grace our planet....... BUT, Elvis the man and performer is endlessly fascinating to me and I don't think there'll ever be another like him. His performances were electrifying, and I never seen any one person wield that much charisma. If I had to pick one performer or set of performers to LISTEN to, it'd be the Fab Four; if I had to pick one to WATCH, it'd be Big E. If it's possible to be both an Elvis AND a Beatles person, I'm it...... I guess it's a tie, but you have to give the edge to EP 'cause he came FIRST.

John Lennon summed it up himself-"Before Elvis there was nothing"
It was because of Elvis that the Beatles were born, so no Elvis- no Beatles!!

Elvis obviously dominates the Beatles!

reply

Here are some imaginged "converstions", in the heads of above mentioned parties....

...Alone, 4 am, 1966; Elvis listins to a new Beatles recording at Graceland. He muses to himself, "Hell, how come RCA, an' the Colonol don't give me songs like that?"

...John Lennon, 1956, Liverpool, England; listens to his radio. He hears "Hound Dog" on the radio and shouts out; "Is this guy white!?, I wish I could sing like that!"

An' that's the rub boys an' girls.

reply

Elvis Presley

reply

Elvis. Ain't even close.

The Beatles wrote their songs which is a plus for them. Elvis made at times what would normally be a bad song, very good. His charisma is unmatched by anyone or group. But that's me opinion. And I am biased.

Presley is less even than Michael Jackson,Rod Stewart,Bryan Adams,Phil Collins,
Rolling Stones,Madonna,U-2,Police and more for so long,he is only an overrated
american mud-idol,THEREFORE IF HE CAN´T AGAINST THE NAMED ROCKERS HOW COULD HE
AGAISNT THE FAB FOUR?when BEATLES APPEARED ELVIS DIED,Which are his hits after
Lennon and pals defeated him? Perhaps Did he release album like "Peppers" or "Abbey Road",elvis was envious when the Fab 4 overcame him!
Elvis was a product of Tom Parker,he never played outside the USA,HIS SONGS
ARE A BUNCH OF EMPTINESS AND FOOLISH ROMANCES,Beatles fought the system in
their own way,i like some Elvis´ songs, but the rest make sleep almost everyone
around the world even in the USA,dressing like a clown and glasses are only
a pathetical carnival of idolatry,Beatles rule against every musician forever!
Didn´t you see his envy against Beatles?it´s a real scene!
He didn´t write songs,Parker looked for unknown songwritters, his "biopics"
always shows his limitations,Beatles were a total machine to make hits!

When Yoko Ono destroyed the foursome,Presley re-appeared because he knew
that his worst nightmare was over,Why did he take pills?because he came
to his top,and the british musical army was annihilating him!
Don´t be naives,BEATLES SHALL LAST FOREVER,PRESLEY IS ANACHRONISM!

Ignorance is like a mind cancer!

Elvis will always be the King. Elvis is bigger than any other musical artist including the Beatles. Keep in mind tImmtibet John Lennon once said before Elvis there was nothing, which means if there haven't been no Elvis there would of been no Beatles. The Beatles were four singers Elvis was one singer they couldn't do what Elvis could do. Would you compare albums like peppers or abbey road to Elvis 1968 Comeback Special soundtrack album? Elvis had a bigger impact in the 50s than the beatles did in the 60s. Would you also compare Elvis movies to the Beatles movies How about compare Love Me Tender to Hard Days Night or Jailhouse Rock to Help at least when presley made a movie it had a story to it, not like one big music video like the beatles movies Help and Hard Days Night. You may say the beatles fought the system their own way, But Elvis was always Taking Care Of Business, before anybody did anything Elvis did everything.

Elvis Presley will forever be the KING.

reply

Elvis wins vs pop, yet he would lose to Dean Martin. His hero.

reply

I agree. Elvis would win with his voice his passion and his moves.
But it's not exactly a fair contest.
Two different nations.
4 vs 1.
They both respected and hated each other in different ways, but I personally believe Elvis would win.

I was in school in Miami from 1962 to 1964. I seem to remember the major rock station in Miami doing an Evis Vs. Beatles weekend at the hieght of the British invasion. I'm not sure if there was any kind of survey as to who won, but if the station still exists there might be some record of the event.
I don't recall the call letters of the station, but I think it was referred to as Tiger radio

perhaps other major cties aired similar programs

tlmmtibet I want to touch on one of your quotes:
_____________________________________________

"Presley is less even than Michael Jackson,Rod Stewart,Bryan Adams,Phil Collins, Rolling Stones,Madonna,U-2,Police and more for so long,he is only an overrated".
_____________________________________________

Let's let the record books answer your question. According to Billboards Book of Records, Michael Jackson had 38 top 40 hits. Rod Stewart had 34,Bryan Adams had 22, Phil Collins had 21, the Rolling Stones had 41, Madonna had 49,
U-2 had 15, and the Police had 9. How many top 40 hits do you think Elvis had? Try 116!!!!! All 8 of the artists on your list together have had 229 top 40 hits. Elvis has had more then half that total number...... alone!!!

One final note. The Beatles had 52 top 40 hits including songs after their breakup. Elvis had 116 top 40 hits. He reached the Beatles overall total of 52 in 1961. After the Beatles came to America in 1964, When Elvis competed directly with them, He scored 59 top 40 smash hits! Not bad? Also, Elvis has had more hits in the U.K then the Beatles.

Numbers don't lie.
