Another Movie About "Fun" Hobbies That Look Horrible

Why anyone would find this kind of excursion fun (climbing around underground) is beyond me. Just like the movie Everest made me question the sanity of people who climb mountains in the snow.

Oh what a falling off was there.

I thought I would get into caving when I went off to college.

I went to a meeting of the Spelunking Society. Just the stories of "great" caves gave me the creeps!

SO, I agree. Fun to see "tame" caves I can stroll into and out of, and to see others' photos of rock formations and clear water down there.

But... I ain't goin' there!

Some people just want to be thrilled. Some people are attracted to danger. Others just have no fear in them.

This reminds of a 20 year old russian chess player, Yuri Yeleseyev, who died while practicing something stupid called parkour. It was a kind of suicide. It's how dumb people commit suicide. Just because he was smart at playing chess doesn't mean he was a Natural Selection winner. He lost in the Darwin's World Evolutionary Games.

I did some caving when I was younger. Nothing serious but we got into some tight and dangerous spots. I stopped when an over-adventurous friend went into a tiny tunnel under the floor of the chamber we were in and there was a slight cave in. Scared the hell out of me, if he'd become trapped or pinned there would simply have been no way to get him out. The scene in this with the cave in in the tight wriggle tunnel takes me straight back to it. Makes me feel very claustrophobic and panicky every time I see it.

...then whoa, differences...

Agreed. That's why I thought I try watching this movie again. The first time I started watching at a drive-in and didn't think it was that interesting, so fell asleep. Then I heard later it was a great movie. I don't mind going through big caves, but spelunking isn't my idea of a good time. I've done high risk sports like skiing advanced runs or white water rafting above class 3, but rather enjoy the great outdoors instead of being in tight dark places. It would be too claustrophobic.
