borrrrrrring miike rip off*SPOILER*

I found it extremely boring and felt like it ripped off a few of Miike's films.

#1 it is the plot from Audition slow moving suspense, with a weird chick. Audition is a masterpiece of suspense this is just boring and much slower with no shock. Only creepy *beep* was the stupid white leotarded blueman group guys.

#2 Cameraman theme really felt like Visitor Q especially considering the daugher element. (also a masterpiece and a great watch)

#3 Psychotic break and *beep* video effects really resemble MPD Psycho. (which I hated)

--------------------- On a side note...
#4 Its basically little shop of horror except not funny, no song and dance and has a hot asian underground vampire instead of venus fly trap and the CGI body builder guy from Ichi the killer instead of rick moranus.

Such a waste of time and a rental. However the only bad Tartan dvd I have seen so far. Miike is one of the most if not the most infuential director of the past 15 years he gets ripped off alot... I just get the feeling that this film really tried to be a Miike film. Haven't seen juhon or whatever it is yet so I guess I dont know his style and cant comment on it fully but it must be better than this piece of trash. Really could of been a masters of horror or 3 extremes rather than full length feature could of easily cut 45 minutes from this film.

Any other Miike fans feel this way?

DUDE I TOTALLY AGREE! the movie was sooo incredibly boring! i watched it with literally seven people and everyone was so bored. one of my friends was like," are you guys really enjoying this?" such a waste of time!

something funny came out of it though...after the makeout scene came on, I asked my friend james, "hey james would you cut your mouth to make out with a girl like that?"
james: "*beep* yes...i'd cut my dick!"
LMAO!

Considering your taste in movies, how did you ever decide on picking up an asian art house movie? Not trying to say you have a poor taste in movies, just wondering.

reply

I am wondering the same thing from our above mentioned "Dude".

Watched this on television, wasn't a bad flick in my opinion. Personally I found the detachment of the main character from the real world to be the most disquieting aspect of the film.

To go back to the first post in this topic....

I, personally, dont care if you love or HATE "Marebito", but you can hardly say that "Marebito" is slow moving when "Audition" was slow moving itsself. now, i like both films, and love both of the directors, but you cant really compare the two films OR the two directors.

reply

dude haha this is a psychological thriller. things build. thats why infection, audition are so good. it just gets under your skin...

miike has a knack for shocking us. they are two diff styles.

I've seen every Miike fan, and you don't know what you're talking about.

You do realize Miike makes films that are similiar to other films as well, right? One Missed Call, for example. Oh, how about ALL of his early yakuza films? How about Dead or Alive 2 (basically, Miike's version of Sonatine)...

reply

ha yes I agree.
awful film.
Vapid!

What annoyed me most was that the main character was able to quickly deduce that the trampy man in the underground bit was 'definitely haunted by terror'
The concept of being 'haunted by terror' seems somewhat convoluted. Is it any different from being 'Terrified'?

Shikes!

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but as much as I love Takashi Miike he's not exactly original, especially in his storylines. You mentioned Marebito is a ripoff of Visistor Q, but Visitor Q is a ripoff of Pasolini's Teorema. He got a lot of material and inspiration from other films - The Happiness of the Katakuris is also a remake.
