FBI?! wtf, it should be CIA

Why the hell is the FBI leading the operation in another country? It's not their competence, but CIA's
take a look for example at homeland tv-show

Yeah you´re right. That bothered me from the get go. The FBI is responsible for homeland security. A mission outside US Borders? Please...

reply

Sorry but Department of Homeland Security is responsible for securing the country. The FBI is responsible for investigating any federal crimes regardless of whether they occur in the United States or abroad. If it's a crime against a US citizen or the US government, it's the FBI's job. The FBI even investigates espionage. They do this in real life like the embassy bombings or the Lockerbee plane bombing by Libya.

The CIA is an intelligence agency, not a police agency. The FBI is the agency that investigates crimes committed against Americans abroad. This was an attack on an American compound and included killing of government people. I'm sure the CIA would also be doing something, but behind the scenes. The FBI would take the lead in an investigation or criminal case. This is what they did in the Embassy bombings committed by Bin Laden in the nineties. That's why Bin Laden was on the 10 Most Wanted List. They had been able to connect him to a crime. The FBI does a lot of investigating overseas of terrorist attacks. The CIA's job is different but the two are supposed to work together. One of the reasons for 9/11 is because the agencies didn't do a good job of sharing their information.

When we got bombed in Riyadh, the F.B.I. showed up for the interviews. So that is realistic.

It even explains why the FBI is investigating in the very beginning of the movie..... You must have a very limited attention span or comprehensive issue.

There's all kinds of domestic law and politics involved with FBI jurisdiction over civilian crimes and some practical skills related to crime scene analysis. It's even arguably less complicated diplomatically to get a civilian criminal investigation agency involved in a foreign country vs. the CIA or the military.

The reality is that it would end up being multi-faceted, anyway, and the CIA would be doing a lot behind the scenes anyway, possibly even the military on some level, even if it was just supplying transportation logistics.
