STOP MAKING HORRO/COMEDIES

as someone had once stated, horror and comedy don't mix. It is rather stupid. TWO horror/comedy movies stand out in my mind at the moment that did well but it was an exception and those are Killer Klowns From Outter Space and Dead Alive oh and Evil Dead 2 of course. Other than that, it is really insulting the genre. Please start making horror movies without a corny joke every 5 seconds or alternative and/or heavy metal music, that pisses me off too. If your gonna make a horror movie he's an idea..make it SCARY and we dont mean blood and guts ALL THE TIME...some atmosphere and eerie music would be nice

I agree with you on some level but am obligated to say "cheese pizza"

horror comedies = brutal failures

You mean like that big flop Shaun of the Dead?

I kind of like homedies (that's what I call them)

But I get your point...it makes it hard for you to take a horror movie seriously when it's also a comedy.

It only works for certain movies.

reply

Umm... the whole point of it being a comedy is that you DON'T take it seriously lmaooo!! You people have no sense of humor.

Exactly, I thought this movie was a great mix of both. So tired of horror afficianados thinking they know more than the regular public. Evil Dead 2, Fright Night(original) etc. are in the same category.

reply

I call this kind of movie a psychedelic comedy with blood thrown in. You are right, either make a comedy or a horror movie; the fact that they are making a second and maybe even a third is pretty pathetic. I'm in need of a really good horror movie that scares the pis$ out of me.

ill agree that pulse was brutally done. but the eye isnt out yet. speculating that something will be shat doesnt make you much of a reliable source dude.

What about the Evil Dead Trilog?

Yeah, horror/comedies kind of defeat the purpose of the horror genre. The best horror movies are to be taken seriously. Fear and laughter don't mix. This one was just alot of silliness and you didn't really care who lived or died.

reply

Most horrors have comedy... usually at the start of the movie where all is fine and they have yet to see the weird crazy clowns with shotguns and tazer rifles.

I understand that you are a man who knows how to get things

The term is black comedy. It doesn't appeal to the masses. Among those movies though are many of my favorites and the most awful. It is a matter of taste. I have watched so many of these predictable horror movies and have no sadistic bent that I find the black comedy a relief. This particular movie was not winner in either respect.

reply

Many black comedies have no horror what so ever... and a lot of these black comedies do appeal to the masses... maybe not critics because they have to be politically correct

No matter how good our kung-fu is, it will never defeat guns.

I HATE PG-13 "HORROR" MOVIES MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!! Argggghhhh. I mean I like comedy in horror movies, sometimes they work great, but I hate pg-13 horror movies because usually they are total crap and are just meant for stupid kids.

You mean "stupid people" who hate them but still watch them? I see.......

Are you for real? Whats your problem with HO/CO's? and why do you feel that your opinion should change the face of moviedom? Are you a censor, or do you feel a need to cry for having to deal with 2 things at once? you don't like horror/comedies?, thats cool, I don't like a lot of things, like toture porn, "Based on real events" bs flicks or oscar-type vehicles, but I don't try to stop them, I pass them by, because I know that other people do like them. Maybe its your age, or your mental state, maybe you weren't shown enough love (I added the age since you like too YELL IN YOUR TYPING, yet not begin a sentence with a capital, or even take the time to spell check). At any rate live and let live. Just remember Rob your mom didn't say stop... :)

I know I'm late in the game but you win today's internet!! :)

What about Shaun of the Dead? Although it's more of a black comedy.
Still the same thing.
I do like Dead Alive and the Evil Dead movies though.

How about 'Slither'? I would categorize that as a horror/comedy that certainly didn't take itself too seriously and was very enjoyable!

The problem with this line of thinking is that to horror lovers like me, death is comedy anyway, so for me, horror/comedies are a great match. I laugh my ass whenever someone dies in a movie, and the gorier it is, the harder I laugh. Once you've seen enough horror movies, not that much really scares you anymore. And a horror movie can only scare you the first time you watch it, because after that you already know whats gonna happen, so you're just watching it for the death and gore. If there's some witty dialogue mixed in it gives you a little more re-watching value. So I'm all for horror/comedies, as long as they don't censor themselves and go easy on the gore. You can never have too much gore!

I haven't gotten a chance to see Feast yet, but Shaun of the Dead and Slither were great examples of good horror/comedy.. and of course Evil Dead is classic. There's also a little-known movie called Zombie Honeymoon that came out not too long ago, I recommend that too.

reply

Haha totally agree!!! Comedy in horror movies sometimes works great. "You can never have too much gore!".....haha thats what I always say, I LOVE gore and Feast was excellent on the gore aspect and had some pretty good comedy too.

Oh and another classic of a great horror/comedy is Dead Alive! Great movie!!! Zombie Honeymoon was pretty good.

I'm (not) sorry, but lines like "the monster's cock is stuck in the door" are pure gems to me. I've always had a penchant for the absurd.

I honestly don't have much use for folks who stand around in a catastrophe muttering to themselves, "This isn't supposed to be happening. Make it stop."

I'm more likely to pair up with the guy standing there with a smirk on his face, going "Oh great, it's a *beep* storm. Anybody got an umbrella?"

ditto.

Slither was just absolutely f*ckin great. about as good as a comedy/horror can get.

reply

Speak for yourself, I hope they keep coming... You don't have to watch...

reply

I'd also like to mention An American Werewolf in London as another good horror/comedy. Hell even critics praise that movie.

reply

... if you hate them so much. Some of us like em and we owe no apologies to you.

reply

Rob--

I don't know if I consider this one a "Comedy." I mean, yeah it made me laugh, but I didn't feel like it was full of stupid gags or anything. If anything, I thought I was just sort of a light-hearted horror, sort of like Dusk til Dawn.

Someone else brought up a good point though: What about Shaun of the Dead? That is DEFINITELY HO/CO, and it's good...

What I can't stand is HO/COs that aren't good horror OR good comedy. But for that matter, I hate straight up horror movies that are crummy (most of them, unfortunately), and by that, I'm talking about scripts, not budget. Some of the best horror out there was made on Minimum Wage.

Your thoughts? Anyone else's?
