I thought this sho was FANTASTIC, why all the haters?

Hello,

I had to register to ImDb just to ask everyone here, "Why all the hate for this show"?

I thought it was fantastic, and I did film studies & photography, my brothers friend made the film "Shrooms"; I am just letting you know that I know a good show/film when I see one. In my eyes and in my opinion I absolutely loved "The Andromeda Strain", I think it hit the screens at a very crucial time, especially with all the conspiracies flying around at the moment on the Internet about the H5N1 strain and the New World Order.

It seems that I am the only one here that likes this show, can anyone please explain why a great show like this has got so much hate? I am completely shocked and just had to register to get my opinion broadcasted on the message boards.

Filled with suspense, great camera work, great music selection, great story line, the acting is fantastic and you gotta love that voice of "Andre Braugher", it 100% a replica of "Dennis Haysbert", for example Dennis Haysbert's voice in the game "Splinter Cell". Fanastic, I love this!

why all the hate?

Clearly you couldn't be bothered to read the book it was (loosely at best) based on.

Also, you clearly couldn't be bothered to at least watch the original film adaptation, which is fairly accurate to the book.

I can sum up why this made-for-TV travesty is terrible in a one-word question:

Ruth?

Hang on, OP, how come we're supposed to respect your opinion (which happens to be positive towards this movie) as valid, but anyone with a conflicting point of view can just be dismissed by you as a "hater"?

Why the mindless epithet? You deserve respect but others don't?
How does that work?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Why am I not surprised the kind of person who can't see what's wrong with this film uses the word 'haters'?

reply

Ill tell you why all the hate. Its because this adaptation absolutely sucked. If they were going to do a remake of the original film version of Michael Chrichton's masterpiece of scientific paranoia, why not go all the way and just do a feature film? Why remake it anyway? The original is a pretty good piece of cinema truth be told. Followed the novel pretty well, too.

What a great movie!

I loved all the science stuff, and the suspense was totally nerve racking! Very entertaining and it keeps you guessing for ages. Indeed, the plot had some holes and the subplots were a bit messed up, and the ending wasn't amazing, but overall I couldn't care less. On the whole it was an incredible story in which you get totally absorbed in.

It seems like a lot of people hate this movie, but IMDb voting shows that 68% of people rated it as a 6 or better, so most people thought it was at least decent. I think the major reason some people hate it, is because they think it betrays the original, which it well could (I have not seen the original). But this simply makes it a bad remake, NOT a bad movie.

Truly an awesome movie, and the best I have seen for a while

8/10

Then I would implore you to see the original. Robert Wise is one of the most underrated film directors ever, and The Andromeda Strain (1971) though a little dated it is, still is an amazing film.

reply

I intend to. If it's better than the modern version, like everyone says, it will definitely be worth it. Maybe, I'll also get to find out why people dislike the modern film so much. Thanks for the tip.

Just cause you be a person what's studied film don't mean that others can't have a valid opinion what's contrary to youse. I gave this flick a 5 out of 10; I would have given it a 4.5, but you can't do that here.

Watch the 1971 movie and you'll know why many of us don't like it.

Read the book and you'll know why many of us don't like it.

After you've seen the 1971 version and perhaps read the book, tell us what you think about it.

Sorry mate but you just represent everything that is wrong with the film industry and its viewers in a single post.
To elevate this mess of never-ending mediocre subplots, horrid acting and contradicting scenarios with constant basic logic flaws is laughable.
I really don’t mean to offend but you thinking this is even culturally relevant saddens.
Stop watching NWO “documentaries” on the web, and educate yourself on how the world we live in actually works. Maybe then you’ll see the obvious flaws in the movie.
There is nothing wrong with liking Dennis Haysber from SC, but it shouldn't be enough to endorse this mockery of a film.

How does your connection with another person who made a film validate your point. How does the fact that you did "film studies and photography relate to good taste in film. The story line was filled with holes, the incompleted rabbit trails meant to generate suspense fell shallow and flat, the same ole tired cliche (several in fact)- yikes. Not to mention, the new version felt the need to change the story (badly, I might add) in an effort for the director to "make his mark" on the film.

And would you please stop calling it a show- someone who studied film and photography should at least learn the terms.
