The guy spends his 20's and 30's as a convenience store clerk and then moves on to working a fast food counter. He obviously has no drive, motivation, or money. He's a whiner and kinda funny looking too, yet he seems to constantly score decent looking women. Does anyone else have trouble making sense out of this?

He was funny and seemed caring and sympathetic. Plus it seemed to be a small town and that means slim pickings, could have made him more appealing if there wasn't much to compare him to.
The point was that the high school hottie was tired of being used by *beep* so she hooked up with Dante because he is safe, won't complain, won't cheat (lol) etc.
Its surprisingly common. For example, Kevin Smiths wife is kind of a hotty and she allows Kevin Smith to touch her. He's commented that he still feels unworthy etc, so its only natural to put that in a movie.

It's a Hollywood cliche. Average, medioce guy scores with girl with supermodel looks. But you rarely if ever see the reverse - a guy who looks like Brad Pitt falling for a woman whose somewhat overweight and unattractive and has a low paying job. I mean, a nerdy guy like Jim Carrey ends up with Cameron Diaz in The Mask, but when do you see a hot guy end up with someone who looks like Roseanne Barr?

Randall addresses it yelling at him how hes the ugliest *beep* he knows yet seems to always have 2 bitches fighting over him. your an idiot, but because i know *beep* i will tell you exactly as i can what scene im referring too, after an hour its the part after Becky says she's pregnant and right when Dante confides in Randall about it near the moobys drive thru. but honestly Kevin Smith was nothing when he made the first clerks and Dante was probably his boy or someone who said yes. and but but honestly, that's *beep* up to call the dude funny looking but but but honestly, fair question and i half heartedly apologize for the expletives
