Would this work if the genders were reversed?

So I love yuri romances, and this one is...OK...but movies like this and Bridges of Madison County make me wonder:

If someone made a movie about a guy with a stable but bland wife and the guy either had an affair with an exiting woman, or actually left the SBBW for her, would he ever come across as anything bur a jerk?

reply

Well, the thing about leaving a good woman for another woman is that the guy would be straight or bisexual and that means he could love his wife which would make leaving her wrong. In Imagine Me And You, I think both women are gay and not bisexual, so that's why Rachel isn't seen as a jerk.

reply

Well, Rachel didn't care much for having herself labeled a lesbian when she was asked that ("what ever you want to call me" or there abouts). The lesbians I know say if you've had sex with a man you're not really a lesbian. Of course a person can call themselves anything they want, but I think she was really a bisexual who fell in love with a women. In any case she should have talked to him when she was first having feelings because he was a really decent guy. I think she could have headed off a lot of lies and pain. And yes, I thought she was a jerk.

Some lesbians do apparently say things like that, but that's hateful and a lie. Some lesbians, unfortunately, have had sex with men, because of the pressures society has put on them.

I don't think she's bisexual, because (and this is unfair to people who are bisexual) that's rarely shown in movies and she never shows any signs of having been attracted to her husband. I know I would feel like I molested someone if my significant other came out as gay, because of how awful I know even kissing me would have been for them, but I might also develop some resentment because society doesn't treat women nicely when their male significant other comes out as gay. Some people act like the woman turned the guy gay.

However, I don't think closeted gay people stuck in opposite-sex marriages are really selfish. They just feel trapped by homophobia. However, if she cheated as a bisexual woman then she's just selfish, because she could be attracted to her husband then.

There's a lot of hogwash and bologna in this post.

First off...

Citation needed. A woman is in full control of her body. If she's having unwanted sex with someone then it's called rape.

What bizarre reasoning. If you cheat on someone -- regardless of your orientation -- it makes you selfish and inconsiderate. Grown adults refusing to communicate their feelings (or lack thereof) that leads to emotional hurt and suffering of a significant other who isn't aware or informed about someone's sexual orientation swap is still being cheated on. That makes the cheater -- regardless of made up buzzwords -- a selfish louse.

I think it would have worked but maybe not as well and I don't know why I think it's just a gut feeling.

The Baroness: There's nothing more irresistible to a man than a woman who's in love with him.

I think, personally, that if it was the exact same scenario, so the husband falling in love and really not wanting, fighting it and later giving in he realized it's true love, and the wife being as sweet as Heck was, it could work.

The thing with Rachel just leaving her new husband, is that she fell in love against her will. She thought she was in love and ready for happily ever after with Heck, but that wasn't the case. They had been together so long, she never knew anything else and then Luce came along and they fell in love.

It happens. People are together for years and they fall in love with someone else. You're not looking for it, not wishing for it, but it happens anyway.

Best comment about this somewhat strange movie I've read yet.

Comedy is not pretty

Aren't there dozens of movies that are basically this story with reversed genders?

Many, however most of them focus on the woman as the main character. Very few have the man with the conflict to switch from his fiancee to someone. There was one even when the woman was the pivot and the men were swapped. That was Made of Honor. Of course, I'm opening a can of worms just now mentioning that one, since it's a very unliked movie from what IMDB was said.

When I read the thread title, I thought you meant if a newlywed husband fell in love with a man. That would be interesting, and I actually don't think people would find it as sweet. Because bisexual men are disgusting and unacceptable, right, and bisexual women are totally fine. In the eyes of almost every woman out there such a man would be disgusting.

But then you went to ask about what there are thousands of films out there. BOOOORING!

You bring up a good point, though, and it's because the agenda doesn't work as well when trying to force acceptance on people using a man cheating on his fiancé because it happens so much in real life already.
