Camp Kilpatrick, the Malibu-based juvenile detention facility that inspired the 2006 movie "Gridiron Gang," is suspending its one-of-a-kind high school sports program effective in January, said Jerry Powers, chief of the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

So it sounds like that The Kilpatrick Mustangs do not exist anymore.

I just saw a short bit recently about a similar program in TX I think. I think that one was for basketball though. Anyway the main part of the story was how the local kids from the high school they played at got together to get some students to actually sit on their side of the court and cheer them on. I think they even got some cheerleaders too. It was a pretty remarkable story
