The brutality, the sense of character...everything about it just sort of works better than the remake, in my opinion.
I also like the ending a lot more. The ending to this film has guts, it's like a punch in the stomach in a good way...the ending to the remake was just sort of the typical 'final girl' ending.
I totally agree with you there. The 2003 remake was pretty good and all, but The Beginning 2006 tops any Chainsaw Massacre movie out there even the 1974 version.
One thing about the 2003 movie, I wish they had chosen to keep the alternate ending.
Yeah I thought the interview was interesting. The movie was ok. I did like the end when Erin owned Hewitt and Hoyt then escaped.
But nothing compares to The beginning. The best one of them all. I do know the 3-d new release is coming out in January, but it's no relation to 2003 and 2006 TCM. It's related to the 1974 version. Do you think they will make another related to TCM 2003 and 2006? I don't see how they could without Hoyt or a one armed Hewitt.
Either the 3D film, which is a direct sequel to the original 74 film, is going to be a success and get sequels of it's own
OR it fails, a few years go by, and we get another remake or reboot.
If The Beginning had been more of a hit(it was successful, just not on the level of the 03 version) then the plan was to do films that took place between it and the 03 film. That's not going to happen now.
I would have liked to see one about the girl at the beginning of the 03 film, one about her that ends with the scene of her getting picked up and killing herself. I thought that would have been interesting.

I totally agree with you on that. And even to see more of the story from 1969 to 1973 after Chrissie was killed from nearly escaping. As great as The Beginning was, there could have been so much more done with 03 where they lacked. But I think the ending of Hoyt's career in 03, and 1 armed Hewitt pretty much ruins the idea of another sequel.
I don't have too much of a good feeling about the 3-D film. But I could be wrong.
Yeah...part of the reason The Beginning is the only one I own...it ends the story in a better place, in my opinion.
I'm not too sure about TCM 3D either...I mean, it could be good. But the concept of ignoring all of the previous films but being a direct sequel to the original film from 74 could end up being commercial suicide.
I mean, very few children of the 90s have probably even seen the original film, I have, but I'm a rarity.
And THAT generation is the one that is making up a huge chunk of the moviegoing public...so making a sequel to a film that is 38 years old isn't exactly the best idea.
To modern audiences, the 03 and 06 film are the only version of TCM they know.
They'd be better off doing another remake, to be honest.

i loved this when it came out. i saw this in theaters and jumped so many times lol WAY better than the remake and more R. Lee Ermey as well. Sheriff Hoyt is the ultimate bad guy!!!
The Beginning kicks major A$$!! The Backstory, Hewitt and Hoyt were just epic! Even R. Lee Ermey in an interview mentioned he enjoyed acting in this one rather than the remake.
It's my favorite of the series! :) The gore and brutality were a LOT better, as was the atmosphere and cinematography. And I agree, the ending was really shocking (Though I admit to wishing that Dean and Chrissie swapped roles in those last few secodns... It's no biggie, but would make it stand out a LOT more to me! Plus, Dean is my favorite of the entire series. Seeing him go would heartbreak me more than Chrissie)
It has some of the best characters of the series too :) Dean and Eric <3
It's definitely much more brutal and gory, but that doesn't make it a better film.
I just watched it again last night, and while I think it's an okay film, it's nowhere near as good as the 2003 film. So many stupid, stupid things happen in this. Characters make such idiotic decisions and at some points, I can't help but roll my eyes.
Overall, I like the movie, but I hate how I have to suspend so much disbelief when a character gets thrown out of a speeding, tumbling car and is perfectly fine after the fact.
I believe the characters is the absolute WEAKEST argument against it. The characters in the Beginning are far better than the ones in the remake, especially Dean and Eric.
Also, I'd like to point out that Erin has to be one of the dumbest horror heroines of all time. She gets everyone in the entire movie killed by FORCING them to do what she wants with the hitchhiker situation, she just abandons Andy to die, she sits and watches as Leatherface runs down Pepper, and, worst of all, she sits and watches as Leatherface fights with Morgan. After Leatherface DROPPED his chainsaw. She deserved a grisly death
I just watched the 2003 version last night and even though I like it just slightly better than 2006 version, I totally agree about Erin. I was literally watching it and could not believe how I did not notice all the terrible decisions she made before. After seeing that I agree totally that she is one of the dumbest and most useless heroines of all time, and that's saying something.
