The 60 million set though

For a silly movie such as this I'm suprised at how much the studio decided to splurge on the movie set.

We have a generic army base/bunker, one outside shot with a helicopter on a grass field.

Then the rest must be movie set built just for this for the Earth Ark area + the entire Mars Ark + Atrium + the hallways leading to each facility + a sewer.

Pretty neat.

Stan Winston Studios wasn't cheap, either.

The sets, the monster costumes, the digital & practical effects, the elaborate FPS sequence... all of this stuff adds up and I think they got their $60 million worth because it all looked top notch. I think that most of the people who fault this movie for not including Hell and a bigger roster of demons/monsters don't realize that $60 million can only get you so much. The budget needed to be doubled, possibly even tripled to get a balls to the wall Doom movie replete with flying flaming skulls, a 20 foot tall cybernetic goat-legged bastard with a rocket launcher for an arm, and of course, Hell itself.

Sadly no money was spent on the script.

Pity we didn't see more of it. The movie was so poorly lit. I know it's meant to be dark but not pitch black

60 million?? If that's a real number, I can't believe it. The set looked very bland, generic, and cheap, almost like it could've been a show on the WB (or not the CW). By those standards it would've looked good, but for a Hollywood production with that kind of budget, I'm stunned.

Although the way it came across could've been more because of what another user mentioned, the poor lighting.

If the set was going to be this basic, they should've used some of that money on better CGI, more makeup/creature effects, and action. Or maybe hiring better writers.

Must had been an embezzlement scheme like Battlefield Earth or something.
