Anti-Bullying film?

After finishing the film, I immediately thought "this is one of the best anti-bullying films ever made." Then I listened to the commentary on the making of it and realized that was not, in any way, the intention. This was straight up eye for an eye revenge. What struck me immediately about Considine's character was the anger. I knew this wouldn't end well for him, but there was the two or three scenes where you realized that this was his entire life. Not his love of his brother, but this revenge.

I would have thought more highly of it, had it taken a little more direct approach to the reasoning behind his final decision and not made it about his moral crisis. While effective, I found it a bit of a cop out, albeit much better than the alternate ending, so maybe I am wrong. I like Meadows work and think Considine is a gem in everything, so I went in with high hopes and I wasn't disappointed. Only after hearing that the clear message was unintentional did I change my rating from 8 to 7....I'm sure everyone will live.
