Maybe this has already been covered, but why on earth would this gang of toughs ride around in what looks like a clown car? Doesn't exactly enhance their image.

Because they are clowns. Small time drug peddling tw*ts most likey on welfare. A sh*tty 2CV is all they can afford. No doubt its not taxed or insured. Art mirrors real life as the scum bags living across the road from me are exactly like the drug pushing muppets in the film, right down to the rust bucket Astra sitting their lawn

It wasn't the type of car as much as it was the paint job. Looked like something from a Pee Wee Herman movie.

Also, being drug dealers in a small community, they might not want to draw the attention of the police with ostentatious displays of wealth. A clapped-out VW might be trying too hard though...
