Samuel L. Jackson; why + how much$?

Why would Samuel L. Jackson do this movie? Did he lose a bet or something? And how much money did he get paid? Maybe his salary was half the $33M budget...I just don't understand why he would do this film

reply

He's starred in a whole variety of films in the past. He was once in a Troma film.

he made this movie from being so bad into being so bad its actually good

reply

He did it because of the title.

Wish I'd thought of it first. Stupidest question I heard was what's Snakes on a Plane about?

reply

That's the million dollar question! But no one else can say that they've had it with the m'f'n snakes on the m'f'n plane like SLJ. He was cast for that line alone!

They actually added that line later in reshoots

reply

Yes Excellent title.

reply

Maybe for the money? Hard to say, I guess sometimes actors also just want to try new things.

reply

Maybe he did it for fun of it.

Well, sometimes actors just make bad choices. They see a script, and the see potential in it - or they think it looks like a lot of fun - but the movie turns out to be a flop. I think many actors, even really famous and talented ones, make this mistake at least one time in their career.

That said, I've seen worse than this movie. Like someone wrote; it's kind of so bad, it's really good. One just have to see it for the entertainment and the laughs (because the snakes are so ridiculous, especially if you know just a little about snakes).

reply

He said he did it because of the title. He thought it was a very far-out title.

I don't see why people are seeing this as a bad choice or a mistake. it wasn't a mistake when he accepted it and nor is it a mistake now.
It is a fun little film not meant to be serious at all. Jackson realised this, and knew he would have a fun time making it and watching it. And he was right.
Sometimes just wanting to have a bit of fun is a legit reason to accept things too. No shame in accepting things such as this.

he still stands by the movie, says its one of the funnest movie shoots hes ever been on.

SLJ, once said that he spent most of his career as a struggling actor, that couldn't get a part to save his life. He said he's been in so many movies because once he got a name for himself, he still remembered the lean days.

He also said that many actors get a little too big for their britches, and start turning down role after role, and pretty soon, Hollywood stops calling you all together.
