Why would Samuel L. Jackson do this movie? Did he lose a bet or something? And how much money did he get paid? Maybe his salary was half the $33M budget...I just don't understand why he would do this film

shareMaybe for the money? Hard to say, I guess sometimes actors also just want to try new things.
shareWell, sometimes actors just make bad choices. They see a script, and the see potential in it - or they think it looks like a lot of fun - but the movie turns out to be a flop. I think many actors, even really famous and talented ones, make this mistake at least one time in their career.
That said, I've seen worse than this movie. Like someone wrote; it's kind of so bad, it's really good. One just have to see it for the entertainment and the laughs (because the snakes are so ridiculous, especially if you know just a little about snakes).
He said he did it because of the title. He thought it was a very far-out title.
I don't see why people are seeing this as a bad choice or a mistake. it wasn't a mistake when he accepted it and nor is it a mistake now.
It is a fun little film not meant to be serious at all. Jackson realised this, and knew he would have a fun time making it and watching it. And he was right.
Sometimes just wanting to have a bit of fun is a legit reason to accept things too. No shame in accepting things such as this.
