The girls were a little stupid...

Even though I think both of the girls were terrific actors, I think their script was a little unrealistic despite being a great and in some cases, REALISTIC movie. She had a gun... he was on the floor... she knew he wasn't dead... she left him. Who does that? She just saw her friend get brutally raped and she just leaves him there, not only that, but WITH the gun???

It's ridiculous. It ruined an amazing movie for me. What I think should have happened is she should have caved his scull in with the end of the rifle, and since it's not as brutal as what originally would have happened, they probably could have added a few more violent scenes to fill it out. Yeah it would have made a short ending but I think if they showed the two girls trying to desperately escape into the outback afterwards, it would have lasted the movie a bit longer and definitely make the ending more satisfying. Who knows one of them could have died due to pure dehidration. They could have also made the guy more interesting too, i.e the dogs could have escaped their cages and bye bye.

That's how I would have liked it, anyway.

What bugs me is the girl watched him pull out a knife... After she played around with the rifle and beats him in the back. Why didn't she get the knife. Ahhhhh. I really hate that characters always try to just run away but who knows. Guess you wouldn't really know what you'd do until you're in a situation like that.

Who says the girls needed to have killed him? Why not at least find some rope or chains, even duct tape, and make sure he couldn't come after them?
I'm sure that wouldn't have been too psychologically disturbing to them, especially after what they'd just been through.

Anyway, if you think about it, the world is full of examples of people not thinking straight and doing stupid things, so who knows.

Still enjoyed the film.

Brutally raped? What are you talking about? He sexually assaulted her, but he didn't rape her...

I don't know how many real life news stories I read or case files I see shows documenting where people make really stupid decisions that I would never make.

That's why they die or get killed & we live.

Be grateful you aren't that stupid, instead of thinking everyone is as smart as you - I think it's nice to give people so much credit, but also unrealistic (blame the script written for you, perhaps?).

People complain about characters in movies behaving in some kind of illogical way, but fail to recognize that 'it takes all kinds' in this world - maybe the idea is to write a character as being really dumb or not prepared or not good in a tense situation or not having the same presence of mind someone would while sitting comfortably in a chair, snacking on popcorn, watching an entertainment medium without any fear for their safety or at risk of being killed at any moment.

What's a scull?
Anyway. In that situation you've no idea how you'd react. Those of us with a sense of morals would not kill the guy while he was on the floor unconscious as that would make us no better than he is.

Are you joking? those with sense of morals and some iq would kill the guy and make sure they don't have to worry about him while they go look for their third friend and save themselves.

reply

Morals have nothing to do with it if someone hurt and planned on killing me you bet I'd kill the guy if I had a chance the girls in this movie are just stupid.

reply

I was replying to the person who brought up morals. So if we are going to discuss morality, which i agree is unnecessary in this case, morality would compel you to try to save all your friends. Lets say for a moment that she assumed that she could get away with her girl friend without killing him, and chose not to kill him for moral reasons (I know that wasn't the point, but again, lets pretend.) By doing so she knowingly left her guy friend to be killed later if he wasn't already.

Even if she was thinking about the moral thing to do, killing him would be moral so that she can have unlimited time to find the third friend and help him in case he was alive.

The scene with the gun definitely could have been smarter.

The problem is, she's shown as a smart, tough cookie in other parts of the film, you can't have her be so stupid as to not use the butt of the rifle to smash his head in.

The mistake is having her hit him across the back....if she can think to hit him across the back because she knows he's still alive, she would definitely think to hit him in the head. They should never have had her hit the back, and then you could stretch to believing she didn't smash the head because she thought in her panic that the shot had killed him.

~ I hardly looked at his face. His knees were what I wished to see. ~
