Sam Jackson will win the Oscar

It's his year, man. This is gonna be the film that he'll finally win for.

No.

My husband said he wanted to have a relationship with a redhead, so I dyed my hair.

reply

I'm sure he will, watching the trailer for this movie, he seems very different. I didn't know if that was him or not. It's about time that he does win an oscar.

reply

I think there are too many films coming out this fall season that this will get buried.

"What we do in life, echoes in eternity."

reply

i hope not! this was the best movie of the year. totally agree that sam should win the statue!

reply

So you think he should win the Oscar this year and yet you haven't seen any of the contenders? It's hard to say at this point. December will give us a better view.

But the competition is incredible this year.

Daniel Day Lewis(There Will Be Blood)
Javier Bardem(No Country For Old Men)
Joaquin Pheonix(sp)(Reservation Road)
Johnny Depp(Sweeny Todd)
Denzel and Russell(American Gangster)
Don Cheadle(Talk To Me)
Tom Hanks(Charlie Wilsons War)
Can't think of others right now.

But I really think it's going to come down to Daniel Day Lewis, Javier Bardem(depending on category placement. But his performance was the most chilling I have ever seen) and Pheonix.

Sam may get a Golden Globe nom, but I really don't see an Oscar nomination happening.

don't forget richard gere in hunting party/the hoax.
hell even adam sandler for reign over me

reply

I agree

reply

I doubt it. This is Javier Bardem's year for his performance in "No Country For Old Men," and even if Bardem receives a supporting actor nomination, Daniel Day-Lewis(for "There Will Be Blood") and Brad Pitt(for "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford") stand better chances of receiving the Oscar.

I doubt it; this film is going to sink without a trace.

While Samuel L. Jackson is funny and often frightening as the "angry black man," I personally find his work a tad hosed. He only seems to do well in exploitive films where he's allowed to coin the phrase "bad *beep* wait, those are the only films he does. Oh, then okay. I guess he's good in everything.

I'm just tired of seeing Samuel L. as the same guy over and over and over. Sure, he may be effective as Jules or Lazarus or even John Shaft, but when you finally cut the crap and pull the snakes out of your ass, he's only a B actor with a loud voice and a big head. No way he's getting an Oscar nod.

Also, on the topic of Oscar Buzz: Phillip Seymour Hoffman is getting some attention with "The Savages"...now that's an actor.

reply

clearly you havent seen such films as the red violin, or caveman's valentine.

i think that is he image bc thats what his oscar nod was for in pulp fiction. i think what your doing is your poulling stereotypes and placing them on him, but i think if you've seen an array of his films you would certainly not say hes a B actor with the type of performances he has pulled and accomplished.

reply

Haha, I've actually seen The Red Violin.

I still think Sam Jackson is only good at what he's famous for (angry black man). Pretty mediocre overall.

reply

Just seen it and all I can say is he deserves a nod at least.

He does not have to win but if he does not get nominated them there is something seriously wrong within holiday apart from the ovious.

reply

Can't disagree with this assumption more.

Plenty of more-deserving nominations, not only for roles that were more memorable, but for better films, as well...

Movie's that come out early in the year dont get recognized for awards, oscars at the end of the year. That's why everyone is always talking about no country, blood, sweeny, they came out at the end. Couple years ago, take The Terminal for example, great movie, Tom Hanks shouldve won an oscar, but didn't because it came out early in the year.

I love how things change. Thinking about Sam Jackson winning the Oscar for "Resurrecting the Champ" over Daniel Day-Lewis for "There Will Be Blood" is laughable in retrospect, although Don Cheadle should have gotten a nomination for "Talk to Me".

OMG, just OMG. somebody in this thread compare Sam & Don Cheadle. Their acting style is totally different. Don is better in dramatic roles. But talking about cool, he is nowhere near Sam Jack. And depend on your reference, you will like one better than another.
