Sam Jackson will win the Oscar

It's his year, man. This is gonna be the film that he'll finally win for.

I hope so--did anyone see Black Snake Moan? I can't believe there isn't Oscar buzz for him with that one. I was so moved by most of that film (except, of course, JT's inane "acting"), and I hope that he gets recognition soon for how moving and memorable many of his performances are.

reply

Haven't seen this film yet, but I don't know how he will win over Don Cheadle's incendiary and peerless performance in Kasi Lemmons' "Talk to Me."

That´s the worst nonsense I´ve ever heard! Sam Jackson is a star, performing in crap like "Snakes on a plane", "Deep blue sea" and the one with Eguene Levy which name is not worth remembering. Don Cheadle on the other hand is one of our generations greatest character actors, with a CV that Sam Jackson is not worthy of putting a stamp on! I mean how many actors can play alongside Denzel and act him out of the screen the way Cheadle did in "Devil in a blue dress"?

And this film is so Hollywood it´s almost embarrasing! I mean how many times are we gonna see a *beep* about a guy who´s too occupied with his work to see that he´s ignoring the people who love him, just to come across someone who seems to have it worse off but who actully inspires him to do the right thing? I mean give us a break!!!

I agree that Sam Jackson has done some amazing work--doubltess he has performed well into Oscar-worthyness. But just when I am blown away by one of his powerful performaces, he goes and does some mindlessly formulaic or downright stupid (like Snakes) film.

Having only seen the trailer for RTC I can't say whrther he nailed this role or not. But I am reasonably certain that Josh Harnett's plastic intensity will be a madening distraction from anything noteworthy in this film.

Yeah thats kind of like Halle Berry she won the Oscar for Monsters Ball and she deserved it, but she hasn't done one other noteable film in her whole career except one a few years ago I think she played a drug addict or something she was ok in that, but I don't really see why shes so famous besides being beautiful, and its the same with Sam Jackson personally I think hes a bad actor because 95% of the movies he does are pure *beep* but he has given some good performances.

well this is just plain stupid lets look at all of his movies, pulp fiction, jackie brown, 187, the negotiator, ressurrecting the champ, star wars- which him and eqan mcgregor and of course ian mc. were the best acting avaiulable in the beginning part of the saga. not to mention a caveman's valentine, the red violin, black snake moan, long kiss goodnight- all great films with good acting by him even sphere was good. - and the incredibles.

snakes on a plane was a fun film, jumper was horrid but at least he did a good job in it. I think hes acting is grand, and why do we blame actors for having a little fun in stupid dumb movies.

i watch snakes on a plane high as *beep* and its funny.

and then i watch films like black snake moan and im blown away by his acting ability- and for that matter his singing.

i think i named over 50 percent of his films that were good or can be claimed as decent. i think thats a lot less than 95 percent of his films suck

i would say 90 percent of his films are good, 10- percent are not.

which is a pretty solid number

Sam Jackson was awful in this movie. He dragged down the movie with his performance. He completely took me away from the movie. Everytime he was in the movie, I was concentrated on his horrific acting and not the movie.

How could anyone say this was good? I'd hate to see their idea of bad acting...

reply

Once you're established as a star you just have to do one 'Oscar Movie' and you can get a nomination even if the rest of your work was bad. You just have to be famous.

Paris Hilton could get an oscar 10 years from now if she does a Drama and gives at least a mediocre performance. Look at the movies John Travolta made before he got his oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction and Ben Affleck got a Golden Globe nod for Hollywoodland last year.

Oscars are dumb like that.

i believe sam's performance is one of his best's caveman's valentine, not the greatest movies but a strong performance by him. black snake moan was real good too. movies like snakes on a plane...u know hes just having fun, whats wrong with that? he was on boondocks on adult swim and di afro samarai, its good to see actors having fun and not always worrying about oscar buzz and just enjoying acting, u can tell he enjoys it too. im looking forward to him being nick fury in ironman lol.

anyway don cheadle is very good too. he deserved an oscar for hotel rwanda, definitely.

I thought he was awesome in Black Snake Moan. That was acting at its finest! Seriously, he showed alot of emotion, sang the blues really really well, and gave his character personality. He played something different from the whole action cop thing. But I hope he does win an Oscar soon, and this one is lookin pretty dam good for him right now.

Let's Go True Lies 2!

FYC: In The Valley Of Ellah, Reservation Road, Lions for Lambs, Gone Baby Gone, Into The Wild

or Johnny Depp, or Denzel Washington, or Jack Nicholson...there's no way of knowing yet.

I doubt that the two movies are similar in many ways but doesn't Samual L. Jackson's character in "Resurrecting the Champ" look familiar? Has anyone seen the movie "The Caveman's Valentine?" In that movie Jackson was a homeless man who was once a great pianist who studied at Juliard. Now he plays a homeless man who was once a great fighter. I wonder what's next for Jackson a homeless man who was a great soldier hit by that bomb "Home of the Brave?" He will not get an Oscar for this movie or anything else that he does because he has no conscience. He is an awesome actor but like Nicholas Cage he is willing to try any role, even ones that may be beneath him.

Oh, he also was a homeless crack head in Jungle Fever. But he wasn't the Jackson we all know him as today.

reply

You may can even say he was homeless in Coming to America when he tried to rob MacDowell's..... HA......... But I see your point. Nonetheless he is definitely a great actor and I look forward to seeing this film just to see if there is truly Oscar buzz about it

No way. If he wins anything for this film I will be absolutely shocked. He's good, but not great in it.

reply

If I'm not mistaken Sam is Supporting in this film and all those others you've mentioned would be lead in their films

I believe that the studio will push Javier Bardem as the main actor in 'No Country For Old Men' (much like the little screen time for Hopkins or McDormand in their respective Oscar winning roles), and he will win. If he is only supporting, then I guess other main actors have a chance. But Bardem will win an Oscar this year, in whatever category he's nominated.

reply

Sam will most likely be supporting in this film.Hartnett's character is the main character.

reply

I will say this: I only laughed at Sam Jackson's character when he said something funny and not from his odd voice or weird mannerisms (if that makes any sense). In a word, his performance was: believable. Sure, give him the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

You know what else this movie should win for? Best Makeup! Was that really Peter Coyote underneath that makeup? Not to mention, Sam Jackson's weathered face. Great job with that.

reply

Samuel Jackson will win the Golden Globe for Best Comedic Performance. I mean, how can you not laugh by the way he talks in this movie, mostly because he is Samuel Jackson.

reply

He deserves the Oscar for Black Snake Moan alone. If this is a great performance, it should just shoehorn him into that shoe cause it fits him.

reply

After seeing the trailers for Resurrecting The Champ, I definitely think he could win the Oscar. We'll just have to wait and see if it is good enough for it. I think it might be.

reply

Here's the scary part about the diction. My wife and I were immediately struck by the fact that Jackson's character sounds like, and acts like, with many of the same mannerisms of a friend of ours, who was born in the south, grew up in the midwest and now lives here in California. The difference is, of course, that our pal just got back from Turkey last month where he won the Gold Medal at the Freestyle (Olympic style) wrestling World Championships in the 50-55 age group. He was a two time Olympic alternate in his prime, losing in the final Olympic trials to eventual World Champion Lee Kemp and then Olympic Champion Dave Schultz the second time around. He's a youth counselor, has a BA from ASU in sociology, is very active in his church and is also a High School wrestling coach. But, the speach patterns and mannerisms are there nonetheless. Spooky. (no pun intended)
