Nick and Lizzie were a better couple

Hello,
Well I know Nick is the bad guy, but I liked more the couple Nick-Lizzie than Jack-Lizzie. There was more passion and love at first sight...

What do you think?

They're steamy hot in the midddle of the London blitz.

I agree, but it made my heart sink when he forged that letter. Otherwise I liked them as a couple.

Yeah, he really crossed the line, there.

I never expected that, would it have been okay if he had stole her away fair and square?

reply

I liked Nick-Lizzie better as a couple. In their love scenes there was the feeling of real love. Yes, he was a bad guy but he was driven to do anything to have her. At the end, she still loved him even though she realized all he had done.

reply

I'm not quite sure she still loved him at the end.

I didnt see any love at first sight. if anything I thought the whole thing reaked of the ole "we could all die tommorow in this crazy time so hold on and love whats right in your face at the moment or else you might not have another chance".

thats how I saw her as for why she ended up with nick.but the way he went about it was pretty much what I would call evil. it was really an insideious betrayal.

"...it was pretty much what I would call evil."

That's the point of course. He is a Heathcliff-like character although Emily Bronte would never have allowed him to successfully seduce Lizzie. Those of you who prefer the Nick-Lizzie relationship probably still think that "Wuthering Heights" is a love story. It is not. It is a story of obsession and revenge. Nick is evil as is Heathcliff.

Huh?

Who did Emily Bronte "not allow Heathcliff to seduce"? The only woman he loved was Cathy who definitely loved him back since they were kids. And he successfully seduced Isabella, whom he did not love.

And I'd say Wuthering Heights is BOTH a story about obsession and revenge, and a love story.

Pain is to pleasure as disco is to punk. You need to live through one to fully appreciate the other.

It was difficult watching Damian Lewis do this kind of role after watching him in Band of Brothers. When he forged that letter I lost respect for his character. I just wondered if this was really true that this person did this in WWII.

Though I see your point, I'm not sure I would agree and here's why: More time of the movie was spent developing the Nic/Lizzie relationship than the Jack/Lizzie relationship. Simply put, we saw more of it and really didn't have a chance to see how Jack and Lizzie would have turned out. Most of Jack's on-screen time was focused on prison-break, and most Nic's was focused on bedding Lizzie. So it's easy to see how someone might have preferred N/L over J/L. And to be honest, I can't say I like it when the "bad" guy gets the girl. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But that also goes to show how good of an actor Damian Lewis is - at first I had to work to dislike him as a bad guy, but by the end I thoroughly and completely detested him. His character, that is!

I agree, Rose was a putz.

We never got to see much Lizzie and Jack though, we can only assume they had something wonderful before Jack went away. Jack was obviously really in love with her, she is all he thought about in Colditz. Nick was a nasty bully. He only got free in the first place because Jack let him. Jack was an honourable man.

Damian Lewis is such a great actor - if anyone saw him in The Forsythe Saga will remember how much you hated him as Soames... And then as Dick Winters we all loved him and now in Colditz - we hate him again or at least dislike him. It is a testament to his skills as an actor! I love him!

reply

Their relationship was based on lies - she only was with him because she thought Jack had died.

It also says something about Nick that he couldn't get a woman on his own and had to steal another man's through lying.

reply

My thoughts exactly tlowry! Damian Lewis is an awesome actor to make you detest his character so much. I'll always be a Jack/Lizzie fan cause I love Tom Hardy.

Are you kidding me? Nick was a creepy stalker and an opportunistic amoral basta*d. Lizzy was naieve, shell-shocked and confused. Their "relationship" made me feel kinda sick to my stomach. Not passionate, just icky and wrong.

You could feel/see the chemistry between Nick and Lizzie. However, he was crazy-weird, so probably not a good bet forever after. Jack certainly had the devotion, I just couldn't observe the chemistry so much. I'd think Jack a safer bet overall, as the story seemed to be revolving aroud who she would marry and be with forever (bs not just a fling during the war).

exactly my thoughts, thank you.

I think the film did a good job of making the audience sympathize with Nick's "fun" qualities, only to be just as dismayed at his bad side. However, since they had a chance to develop the relationship between Nick and Lizzie more than Jack and Lizzie, it's almost an unfair comparison to make. But that was the point of this part of the film, I feel, to bring you to a divide as to the relationships of the three in question. They said throughout the film that Jack hadn't known Lizzie very long from when they first met to when Jack left, so they just never had the opportunity to really have a relationship.
