Which one is House's stronger addiction?

I believe House has two strong addictions.
Vicodin and wanting to be right/finding the answer.

Vicodin has physical dependency and psychological dependency whereas "being right" or finding the answer is just psychological.

All in all. I find the latter addiction to be more interesting.

The interesting thing is in early season three he wasn't in pain and he wasn't using. I think finding the answer, solving the puzzle wanting the right answer was still there and was the driving force for House. I think at times when it wasn't as strong he almost didn't know what to do with himself. I think he needed the puzzles , find the answer, be right more than anything.

He also needed his music. That was his other passion.

Great question!

For references sake: The addiction to being right is the reason he became a doctor.

And thank you for answering!

Finding the answer and wanting to be right is deeply rooted in his childhood with craving his stepfathers aproval. Besides, this amazing brain of his needs to be kept busy.
If House would be truly addicted to Vicodin then he would have continued taking it at the start of season 3 as he was pain-free for a while.
In my opinion House is physical dependent because he needs the Vicodin as pain medicine. In stressful situations he might take the one or other pill more. This might have something to do with the circumstance that negative stress has the ability to worsen chronic pain.
Since I think that emotionally House rather feels too much then too less, to numb himself with an extra pill of Vicodin might make him feel better in and able to deal with overwhelming situations. For example, like in Bombshells as he took one Vicodin pill in order to be there for Cuddy.

House to Wilson about Cuddy: She is not some floozy in a bar. She is the floozy I work for.

I agree House feels more not less that's why he distances himself from patients, to be more objective. He likes the puzzles yes but he needs to see the patients more as a puzzle so he can treat them . Whenever he gets close to someone it starts to cloud his judgment.
He is reluctant to get personally close to people because if it goes wrong he doesn't move on so easily like Wilson.

And this is what we saw in Euphoria. He really got nervous about Foreman being there that had a hard time getting the cure.

He wanted him to be just another patient but slowly realized it wasn't possible and that time solving the puzzle wasn't that fun, he was really worried he would die.
I just finished Euphoria And it was a very intense episode, its one of Hugh's best performances on the show

Definitely solving the cases and the puzzles that were presented to him.

He was actually clean for over a year and I think partially they did it to show that exact reason that he could live without the pills (although it might be painful) but without his puzzles and rubix cube complex he loses his identity.

I never got the Vicodin thing. I've taken Vicodin for pain and never felt anything. I might as well have taken a couple of Advil. This drug does not create euphoric feelings, or any other enjoyable effects. So what's the BFD?
