alternative to Edie dying

Obviously we all know it went down the way it did because the showrunner wanted the actress gone. And while I feel like Edie's general character and dialogue played true to the end, I do feel she made one fatal mistake that she wouldn't really have made, but for the forcing out of her.

And that was the attempt to call Mike right in front of Dave. She had time to plan this confrontation with Dave, she wouldn't have lost her cool like that. She would've given herself a clear path to the door, bolted for it and into the yard and started screaming. Or she'd have said she needed some time alone upstairs to think about things, and then climbed out the window. Something. She would've had a back-up plan to get herself out.
