I just watched the premiere on television and was blown away. Halle Berry was incredible as Janie and I fully expect her to be up for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work.

Oprah can do no wrong. I thought the movie stayed very true to Zora Neale Hurston's wonderful novel, even down to Janie's long hair being representative of her strength and freedom. I was so excited for this movie and am very pleased with the end result. Great job all!

I just watched the premiere as well and I was really pleased with the results. Halle did an excellent job, as always. I think she brought everything to the movie that I felt in reading the book. However, in remembering the book (and it has been a while since I read it) I never saw the same actress playing Janie throughout the movie. The book, as did the movie, spanned approximately 21 years. In the movie, Halle looked exactly the same at 40 as she did at 17.

Also, I thought Michael Ealy was excellent as Tea Cake. He brought a lot to the character and I was very pleased. I don't remember the book describing his complexion or his features, just that he was tall. So he fit the character well to me.

I didn't think the movie could stay true to the book in such a short time space on commercial television, but it did. There were a few details missing while in the Marsh and after she shot Tea Cake, but no so much that the essence of the book was missing. I expect that this movie will get man Emmy nods, including Halle Berry, Michael Ealy, and Ruben Santiago-Hudson.
