God this film is now in my top 5 films. What fantastic actors, (yes, Sienna Miller included), Omid what's-his-name = genius, funny, whitty story, great pace, beautiful to look at, I'm completely in love with it and it's the only film with Heath Ledger I can bring myself to watch at the moment without crying.

I recently saw this on cable and then rented it on Blu-Ray. (My wife loved it so much she wants me to buy it.)
For a costume, romantic comedy, this is a very good film. It falls just short of perfect but the positives far outshine any problems.
Great cast (including Ledger), wonderful scenery (beautiful Venice), great music of the period, classic twists in the plot; to sum it up, outstanding, 9/10.

it's just in my humble opinion - imho -
I really enjoyed the movie. The only issue I have is with the hero of the film (and too many others) dispatching law officers and soldiers, similar personnel so easily in chase and fights. and it's like 5-on-1 in many scenes ---- no problem, hero prevails. Too predictable in that regard. And the cardinal would not stand for that letting them get away.
