It looks like alot of girls like this film. It also looks like they lose all sence of logic and taste when the see a "hunk"(Beowulf actor) of some kind. And that is why I think we(most of us) guys see through the bad scrip, bad acting, bad directing and unrealistic fight scenes. Self dependent women: "Bring it on!"
shareHehe.. uhm, my favorite character was Grendel, and I was hoping through the whole movie he was just going to kill everyone. I wanted to see the movie because I thought he looked so cool in the preview. Brad Pitt is ugly as all sin, and I don't even remember what the Beowulf guy looks like. Selma's accent/acting??? was too distracting for the movie, and some of it was unnecessary and drawn out. But at the beginning, when Grendel is with his dead father on the beach, that's what made me like the movie. That's all really. It was the human quality of the story. The funny thing is, the most human qualities came from the troll and not from the people at all. If I watch something that has a good idea behind it, I can still appreciate it even at times when it's poorly executed.

shareSigh. I almost didn't reply to this but I might as well raise my flag. I'm not a girl anymore, so here is a woman's opinion. I very much wanted to like this movie, due to intense personal interest in the subjects of Anglo-Saxon and the related Germanic cultures. I felt that since it was going to be Scandinavian-made they surely couldn't screw it up. Wrong. This movie was cursed from the beginning; even the pre-filming blessing ceremonies turned out bad. The worst character portrayal was that of Selma. Polley's lack of proper accent was simply atrocious and she was completely miscast. Everything else in the movie was underwhelming. It's a pity considering the location of the filming has awesome beauty, and the costumes and set were somewhat good. However the armor and weaponry carried some inaccuracies. I think a lot of cult fans of historical movies like these were hoping it would be their next 13th Warrior, but it fell short. Even a "bad" movie like 13th Warrior is very likable, whereas Beowulf & Grendel is just disappointing.

This movie is not the best version of this epic story. I rented it to re-live the tale of Beowulf. I couldn't care less for the way the actors looked.
Most women see this purely because it is a MOVIE, okay? Sounds like you're a little jealous too. Guys like you who generalize have trouble getting a girlfriend.
