Why did Marcus wait so long to free his brother?

This always confused me. Initially -- as depicted in the opening scenes -- Marcus was crushed by Victor's rule, but in the first movie it was revealed that "it was Marcus's time to rule." Meaning he had previously been the highest ranking vamp at some point during which the other elders slept. Why didn't he go on his rampage then? Was the creepy lycan doctor's blood some kind of bro bond enhancer? It'd make more sense if the Lycan's blood memories revealed William had been imprisoned for thousands of years, but the dood already knew that since day 1.

I think it's because Viktor and Amelia always kept him in line, they were also incredibly powerful and vampires were loyal to them, even when they were slumbering, and they can always be easily awaken. it was only when they were truly dead that Marcus dared to make that move.

Other reason is exact location and details of prison was hidden even from him, and the key to William's cell had to half's, one was the necklace given to Sonya that later Lucian took and now Selene has it. The other half was literally embedded in Viktor's chest. Which Alexander Corvinus took out on his ship. Marcus visited him too to get it. So for William's tomb to be open Viktor would literally had to be dead and the key cut out of him, only when Marcus find this out could he go and search for Wiliam

This is really the only explanation that I've found which makes any sort of sense. In bloodwars we see a bigger picture of other elder vamps. Once a hybrid he figured he couldn't be stopped. Still kind of falls flat since access to Viktor and Amelia's bodies would be easy since they all rest in the same room. I suppose it could be argued that he feared the other elder's retaliation if he killed Amelia/Viktor.

It was the numbers game just like when he had to ask Viktor to help solve the issue with his brother.

The Covens was not his he was just a member you could say like Kraven was Viktor was the true leader with power and you had his close council members which kept secrets.

Drinking the blood of that doctor gave him information and memories this awakened something in him and with the likes of Viktor out the way he could do as he pleased.

The whole series is poorly written it had so much potential

Vampires are not suppose to be able to drink lycan blood it was explained mix the two you die so you would expect it to work both ways (some will say drinking isnt the same as mixing yes it is and lets say ok it doesnt count having sex with each other shouldnt work either)

I thought lycan blood doesn't kill descendants of corvenus

This is the issue with this series it flips around claiming one thing then another its very poorly written.

It was never really explained also it doesn't make sense really because you have a bloodline which splits into three

human (immortal)
Lycan
Vampire

Lucian was born a lycan right? which is why he wasn't mindless like the ones created from William but he would of still come from that bloodline but with genetic changes so when he created they also had control.

everyone created from any of those three come from the same bloodline originally so you could say they are all corvenus.
