Why this movie (and all Disney sequals except for TS2) shouldn't be made

Let's face it: Toy Story 2 was the only really successful Disney sequal. Hey, I may be wrong; feel free to add to the list, but I doubt you'll find many.

Now here's the list:

1.) It wastes time and money, taking in less than how much it was worth to make.
2.) They're a disgrace to the originals.

Feel free to add.

As a mom of two little ones...I do agree that there are a few HORRIBLE sequels out there (Cinderella ll leads the pack for me!) but there are a few movies that add to the original story. My little girls love to see new adventures involving their favorite characters, and I do understand why Disney does produce sequels. I just don't understand why they produce sequels that are so poorly written and animated. I think that Disney should take a HARD look at Pixar and Dreamworks and realize that they would sell even more if they produced movies that had whole family appeal versus 3-7 yr. old appeal. I mean, come on, who didn't LOVE Shrek 2??
I think that the problem with Disney is not the sequels, but the departure from Walt Disney's dreams and ideas. My family and I visit WDW on a regular basis, and you can feel how different it has become, even in the last ten to fifteen years. It's not about the magic...it's the money. I hate to see that, since I'm a HUGE Disney fan...anyway..I digress.

Are people aware that TS2 was originally slated to be a direct to DVD movie?? Only after they realized how good it was did they decide to release it in theaters. Even Pixar got the direct to DVD bug....

Pixar didn't get the bug. Disney did. Disney has the rights to make any sequels to Pixar movies, and they decided not only to have Pixar start making it (and Pixar was required as part of the five-film contract), but to release it direct-to-video. But after they saw what was coming out of Glendale, they decided they could make more money by releasing it in theaters. And 1997 (which was when I think TS2 started production) was not a year like now where a movie could potentially make more on home video than in the theaters, though the exception that was part of what tripped this new trend was the first Austin Powers movie which failed in theaters but scored huge on video and spawned the sequel.

As for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins; that was Disney, who made it through Walt Disney Television Animation and slapped the Pixar label on it. Again, exclusive rights to sequels and spin-offs.

As far as I've read and understand....Pixar and Disney were, in 97, in contract to jointly produce and develop movies. The two companies started with a three picture deal in 1991, and upped it to a five picture deal in 1997 Maybe I've got it all wrong, but Pixar was never a puppet for Disney...Disney does distribution of Pixar developed and produced movies, right?

"While Pixar has the right of first refusal to make the sequels, under the current agreement it would have to put up half the money and get only 35 percent of the profit, which makes it extremely unlikely Pixar will make the sequels, said Jeffrey Logsdon, analyst with Harris, Nesbitt and Gerard."

Either way, Disney should start to look for NEW material!!

You guys are so ungrateful. Disney likes to make sequels to show us AFTER what happened after the last movie ended. Here are some actually GREAT sequels to Disney movies.

Mulan II
Kronk's New Groove
Hunchback of Notre Dame II

Hmph. Take some time to relax and watch the sequels. You'll soon see why directors make sequels.

Okay, Mulan II, and Kronk's New Groove were GREAT Disney sequels. But Hunchback 2!? That sucked! Here's my list of great sequels.

Kronk's New Groove
Stitch has a Glitch (Lilo & Stitch 2)
Lion King 1/2
Lion King 2 (sort of...)
The Aladdin Trilogy (Return of Jafar, King of Theives)

I was in LOVE with Hunchback of Notre Dame, but the sequel REALLY brought me down. A lot. And so did Inspector Gadget 2.

Why are people only complaining about the sequels? The quality of the originals has gone downhill as well. Disney, over the last 10 years, has had, with the exeption of a few great ones, a really terrible slate of films. Personally, I think that Disney needs to work on their stuff in general. They just pay even LESS attention to the sequels, making them easily worse. But, whether they be originals or sequels, there have been a few bright spots recently. But very few. After growing up watching Disney, I have to say that I'm dissapointed that they've lost much of their capacity for good.
