This movie was terrible!

My friend and I were both stunned that the ratings were so high. It wasn't half as amazing as we thought it was going to be.

I have no idea what anyone can find artistic or inspiring in this film, at least in an amount worth commending. I kept waiting for something bigger to happen, but it never did. There was hardly a message here. It felt like it was trying to go somewhere but just kept wandering aimlessly around an underdeveloped concept. A few glimpses of something flashy here and there, but nothing spectacular, nothing that wasn't already familiar. I was very disappointed. I felt like there was so much potential that was never reached. Visually it was not captivating either, except for a few minor, fleeting accomplishments.

My advice, don't waste your time. Watch The Fall by Tarsem Singh or The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky instead.

C for effort. Generously. Acknowledging that the writer is a third-grader.

You and your buddy made a mistake, expecting the same thrills and depth The Fountain contains. This is based on a true story, so you can't expect the main character to experience the story in three parallel worlds. Writing a book with the use of only one eye, is if you ask me mindblowing enough. If you failed to see this, than this is just not your type of movie.

In response to 'dadeaux', I did see Mar Adentro, and although I think Javier Bardem is a genius and it is a great movie, I liked Le Scaphandre et le papillon better. The cinematography causes us to sympathy Jean-Do, as it takes us through his perspective. This movie is not cold, Jean-Do just is an optimist and a humouristic man. He doesn't want compassionnateness.

I have to agree with you: it's definitely overrated. An amazing movie is to me one that literally transports me on another planet until the last minute. And that one didn't. Acting is very good nevertheless.

(I'm French btw ^^)

I can't possibly understand how you can enjoy The Fountain and not get into this amazing film. Can you not see the artistic accomplishments made with this film? I cannot comprehend how you feel this way. It makes no sense.

Amazing movie. Very interesting POV cinematography. Great story. I found it more amazing when I discovered that it was based on actual events. I still cannot imagine the struggle, his perspective. Does the movie fail in that regard then? The POV style shooting really helped isolate movement, freedom from other angles.

The Fall is an example of a film that wasn't as profound as it should have been.

You do realise you've said the complete opposite of everything this film has and stands for?

Not exciting and awesome...gee, sorry, we'll ask them to do a remake for you with a bit more, um, excitement. Or you could try a different type of movie.

It was too pretentious for my taste and let me emotionally uninvolved. Needless to say I was also surprised by the high rating.
