Uh...okay then. It's the circle of life. What else were the dogs supposed to do? They had to eat to survive and that meant eating whatever they could find, whether it was birds or the stranded Orca. I'm an animal lover (and activist to an extent) but I knew that the only reason the dogs ate the birds was to survive...oh and the birds weren't real (not in the movie anyway).

It's nature and it's the circle of life.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I'm just going to assume that you are a vegan, have no leather shoes, wallets, purses or coats and your parents have blocked out the Animal Channel on your set.

The funny thing about this thread.

People don't feel sorry about the birds because the birds aren't cute and fluffy like the dogs. When the dogs eat the bird, it's part of the food chain because ugly things are only meant to be eaten.

When people eat dogs, RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEE. You DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT eat CUTE ANIMALS. Cute animals aren't meant to be huggled and snuggled with.

Actually I should say, white people RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE because white people are better than us. Their values, society, and culture are superior to every other culture and race. Eat cute animals? Barbarians! Savages! Looks like we need to nuke another country and enforce our rules down their throat.

Have to give you credit for a good point there. I eat lots of meat but refuse to eat lamb, veal or duck.

I can argue that it is better to eat adult animals but why do I eat pounds and pounds of chicken and not duck??? Answer is that there was this mother duck that used to parade around my old office complex followed by her chicks each spring. They were just too cute.

Couldn't get myself to do duck after that.

You had a good point (I was thinking the exact, same thing) that people piss on the birds, but are in love with the dogs. Sadly, you pull the race card and basically crap on your own excellent reasoning. What "White people are better than us" has to do with the opinions people harbor concerning cute or personable animals, is beyond me.

What is really humorous is this... the U.S. does nothing in Rwanda to stop the genocide, they are bastards because they do nothing. The U.S. steps in to stop a genocide, they are bastards for imposing their will. There is but one response to this kind of claptrap... yawn.

I'm on board with that more or less but then...

Seems like another subject that the makers of 8 Below never sought to address.

You are wrong, most Vegans have leather shoes, belts, purses and wallets of the fanciest kind from the fanciest brands. They even have leather seats in their cars, but somehow they think that eating meat is wrong -- but buying dead animals' skin is okay.

Don't think we can state as a fact that all do that, but surely more than a few do. And only way for them to justify it is if it is a health/diet decision rather than a moral stance.

This is nature at it's rawest and it's finest. Predators hunt and eat prey. The dogs deserve to live as much as the birds. Each has an instinct for survival. The birds actually have and advantage.....they can fly if they are paying attention. And most important is all throughout nature, prey far outnumbers predators. In Africa for instance there are 50 antelope for every lion. When a lion kills an antelope it balances nature. Without the predators, the prey would multiply out of control and starve a lingering, suffering death.

There is a book called "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver that puts the whole predator/prey thing into perspective. (It's about wolves). Read it and you will feel much more at ease about the fairness and balance of nature.

All of you who are asking "WHY feel sorry for the birds? Lol, it was them or the dogs. You can't feel bad about the food chain" are full of *beep* If the situation got even more extreme and Walker's character ended up killing and eating the dogs, would you laugh that off too? Even if it HAD to be done, it's still a goddam tragedy.

Take my advice. Watch "Stella". It's hysterical. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443409/
