It's not just the language.


That language comes from something, from a world weariness called the Great Depression following Prohibition. The clipped, staccato way of speaking and the attitude and perspective on the world come from that. High school kids don't have that, so even if you made their language believable, the sentiments they're expressing belong to people at least fifteen years older than they are, probably more.
