Missing Scenes

Is it just me or is the US 'Unrated, Undead' version of the movie missing a few scenes? I remember a scene with the two girls going to the vampire 'party' for one, that helped set up why Det. Rawlins (Michael Chiklis) was interested in the case.

Also the Unrated, Undead version seemed to be edited for a lot more flash backs, and added more nudity. It seemed like the first version I saw was a lot more linear, not as much jumping from her past, to the present, and back again.

u are not mistaken, u are totally correct. i bought the dvd version and was watching it with my family and was very upset when it was not in order as the version that was played on the sci-fi channel. the dvd version, the scenes are out of order and the tv version they are in order. and u are right the scene where the cops daughter gets killed is not in the dvd version.

The dvd version is the director's origional cut of the movie, as he intended it to be seen. The theatrical release that you saw previously was a version butchered by the studio, cut from 122 minutes to 94, re-edited to make the story linear, and with extra gore added. Studios sometimes interfere in such ways to make the 'product' more commercially viable to the target demographic. Sometimes it works for the best - the cuts made to Lifeforce removed some rather laughable material. More often, I feel at least, such irreverent tampering is something of a travesty. Check out the restored version of Alien 3 to see what I mean.

I have the UK region 2, 4 version with 117 minute running time. What am I missing?

Sorry Dracenwolfe I don't recall. Perhaps someone else can assist?

Hunter S Thompson R.I.P, we'll never see your like again

reply

You didn't miss probably anything, DracenWolfe. In the UK you have a PAL, which shows movies at 25 fps, in the US we have 24 fps, hence there is a difference of about 4% in the length of the movie, which agrees with your 117 mins.

As for the unrated version I like the non-linear form of it better - it makes it more puzzling and interesting.

I'm a bit confused by this as well. Netflix streaming shows the 98 minute version but claims it's the unrated/uncut one. It seemed like the theatrical cut to me, though.

reply

If its 98 minutes long, its definitely NOT the unrated/uncut version.

Sucks that the DVD is the only way to see the full directors intended version. I wish Amazon or Vudu or somebody would put the full version up.
