OT; Question regarding The Big 4 DVD

Sorry for veering off-topic but I haven't been able to find a separate forum for The Big 4 DVD. Does anyone know why Dave Lombardo was the only member of Slayer to appear on stage during "Am I Evil" when all members of Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax played together? I know about several of the feuds in the past between Slayer and Dave Mustaine and everyone knows about the Metallica/Mustaine feuds but they obviously set differences aside for this groundbreaking performance, so why didn't Slayer share the stage with all the others?

I noticed during the documentary portion of the bonus materials that when Hetfield visited the Slayer camp's tent that those guys didn't exactly seem thrilled to see him. Jeff Hanneman seemed especially seemed to give him the cold shoulder to the point that James seemed to be completely uncomfortable being there. I was never aware of any big feud between Metallica and Slayer although I suppose it wouldn't be much of a leap to assume that Slayer resents Metallica for somewhat betraying their thrash roots and going "commercial" while Slayer has remained steadfastly loyal to those roots. Just curious if anyone has any factual information or other interesting theories? Oh, and please don't hijack this thread by debating whether Metallica has betrayed their thrash roots by going more commercial, that debate has been beaten to death. Thanks.

Kerry King from Slayer has pretty openly criticized Metallica for some years now. I haven't read his comments in detail, but I think it's what you're alluding to - criticism of Metallica's change in style, mellowing out, etc.

I understand that, and Slayer wouldn't be the first to level that criticism at Metallica, but why even agree to do the Big 4 project if you have that much of a problem with them? It's kind of hypocritical to agree to a tour where even bigger feuds were set aside (Metallica/Mustaine, Mustaine/Slayer) just to be immature and not share the stage for such an epic event. Obviously they wanted to cash in without really "buying in" to the whole concept which kind of makes them guilty of the same thing they have an issue with Metallica over. I guess i was hoping there was a more rational explanation like some logistical issue or something kept them from participating but when I saw how cold Hanneman was to Hetfield during his visit to the Slayer tent I knew something else was afoul. Honestly, if I was Hetfield, I would have said "screw the DVD, if you're going to be a douchebag I'm out of here!!!"

Because they are hypocrits and wanted to leverage Metallica's huge fan base to make more money.

Perhaps James stole one of his riffs.

After seeing Mega Dave hugging Lars and James (I remember in the old days he had beaten up both Ron and James) even shaking hands with his replacement it was crap that Slayer chose to boycott. But as Mustane has found God and been reborn he's not that fond of Slayer so it might not be entirely Slayer or Metallica's fault.

Other slayer members have joined in in the big jam songs in other big 4 shows. The excuse given for the Sofia show was that no one would edit their recording with Metallica Playing after them
