Andy Bernard - Most inconsistent character

Andy Bernard

Season 3 part 1 - Just plain arsehole but was funny and even tolerable in some bits like when he took Michael out at Xmas to Benny restaurant and brought back 2 waitresses and when trying to woo Pam but overall he was an ass. I know originally he wasn’t meant to last as a character and was supposed to go from wall punch so this is the reason for the u turn in season 3 but he was fun to watch when he was like this.

Season 3 part 2 - After anger management he eased off being annoying and was more unassuming. Generally being ok and likeable

Season 4 - 7 - more outspoken, got more of a Story and sang a lot. This was my favourite Andy

Season 8 - was ok to begin with but was trying way to heard to be Steve Carell or wrote that way. Maybe they should have stuck with him being boss all the way to season 9. But His character should have stayed supporting but he’s amplified too much and the plot line with winning Erin back seems redundant when you see how it plays out in season 9.

Season 9 - worst Andy of all, rude, obnoxious, treated Erin like shit then disappears middle of the season and that relationship is ruined when she dates Pete. He comes back and is annoying. Redeems slightly last couple of episodes when he’s humbled by viral video and returns to roots sort of but you can’t forget his behaviour so leaves bad taste. He did have one good moment when he said goodbye and sang. That was good.

Accurate analysis. The key sentence: "trying too hard to be Steve Carell or write that way." Instead of leaving Andy as he was, they made him a clone of Michael. Too bad.

One thing you forgot in your analysis: they turned Andy, an eccentric but educated guy, into a fool who can't pronounce words correctly.

ANDY AS MANAGER WAS A SMART CALL...ANDY IS THE CLOSEST TO HOW MICHAEL WAS AT AN EARLIER STAGE IN LIFE...IT WOULD HAVE MADE SENSE FOR ANDY TO TURN OUT TO BE A SOLID MANAGER...THEY COULD NOT LET IT BE THOUGH...ANDY AS MANAGER SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF THE ARC FOR OL ANDY.

I think if he didn’t leave to do hangover we may have got a better Andy development

THAT IS A VERY GOOD POINT.

I thought Andy only came into it in Season 3? When Jim goes to Stamford (Karen and the all too brief Toby also only appear then)?
Can't remember if the whole anger management thing happened in 3 or 4 - probably was 3, which means a lot happened to him during that season.
Sorry if this is a petty sounding response - it might just be a typo in the o/p

You are 100% right, meant to divide season 3 into 2 parts as he is 2 different characters more or less in that season when he returns from anger management. Have changed. Cheers
