Is Robert California based on Jack Nicholson? The more I watch the show, the more I can see the similarities between the two.

- Both are extremely articulate, intelligent, and enigmatic as hell.
- They both know how to party with a sense of eloquence and boldness.
- The physical/appearance similarities: both have a bit of a paunch to them, receding hairlines, similar styles of dress, and the same affinity for sunglasses.
- Both love sex more than the average fellow does.

Coincidence or intentional?

I honestly thought Robert California was Spader playing James Spader. That's how I picture him in real life.

Well, I would not be shocked at all if Spader has taken a few pages out of Jack's book (out of respect and admiration, of course)
