Even though Eva is pretty, I really thought they maybe she was the wrong actress for this part, or maybe she could have had some different direction.

It would have been great for us to see her soften, but even when she did soften I didn't buy it. There was something almost too hard about her.

reply

I can think of other people that were hard about her.

reply

i know she didn't deserve a happy ending, especially that scene where they first meet in the bar what a bitch

reply

Totally.

Not to mention she ruined Hitch's career, I mean come on. I actually like this movie, but for example the scene in the fish market thing with her boss and they're both acting like they own Alegra's life or something, jesus. People that work with gossip are the scum of the earth.

reply

wow, i had no problem with her character at all. she was guarded in the beginning and gradually started to open up, i mean she did go to apologize to Hitch after she found out that he wasn't the jerk that she thought he was and he basically told her to get lost, lol. not to mention she let him stay at her house after the fish market fiasco. the only type of woman who would let a relatively strange man sleep over with no one else there is a really caring woman or a really gullible woman, and she certainly wasn't gullible.

reply

she wasn't a bitch. she was just a savvy single woman whose dated her fair share of bad men. she was supposed to be a challenge for someone like hitch.

A male equivalent of such a character as Eva Mendes' character in this film would never be committed to celluloid in this day and age. A "savvy" man who has dated his share of bad women and is consequently "guarded" would be construed by the public--especially the female public--as a misogynist.

reply

I think someone like Jennifer Lopez or Jessica Alba would have been better choices for the role. Eva isn't all that. She has very little range as an actress and she isn't even that hot.

If a window of opportunity appears, don't pull down the shade.

Can't understand why Hitch took her back at all!?

Eva Mendes is sweet and all, but totally wrong for this part.

reply

I agree; there was a topic about this same situation: Why did Hitch run after her? Shouldn't it have been her chasing him at the end?

Just watched for the first time and wondered the same thing. The whole ending seemed backward. She did something far more offensive and damaging then anything he did but they still have to spring for the guy chasing the girl and going over the top? Ugh.

I'd love to see you in the moonlight with your head thrown back and your body on fire.

reply

Every guy who I've talked to that's seen this movie hates Eve Mendes' character.

reply

It's not appropriate in fiction for the girl to chase after the guy. It lacks the romance or so that's what seems to be the message. TV has long put out the message that guys are wrong for being guys and girls are in the right no matter what.

reply

It was all about extremes. Albert was a hopeless romantic. Hitch was the guarded hurt puppy. They both took extreme measures. Sara's friend Casy was a hopeless romantic that was desperate. Sara was a scornful and guarded woman that took it to the extreme.

Most movies don't but it happened in What's Your Number with Anna Faris and Chris Evans.

That's the common complaint about this film.

You mean she is, not her character...

With this looks you can't avoid that course

"Not to mention she ruined Hitch's career, I mean come on."

Just saw this movie for the first time and this is the part that bugged me the most. On top of that, wasn't she dating some other guy within a week or so? For someone who has so many issues 'opening up' to people, you'd think the whole experience with Hitch would have had her regress back to how she was before.

Anyway, overall fair movie, but without him having a job (since she ruined his career), I doubt he could maintain her attention after a while.

reply

Of course her character was perceived as a b-tch. What type of movie would have been if Sarah was easy to get into. Had to showcase the "Hitch" skills (such as they were) in breaking down a tough, cynical woman. The Sarah character had to evolve into a somewhat likable character during the course of the movie.

her having barriers or being guarded isnt what made her a bitch. it's what she did to hitch and albert near the end of the movie that makes her a bitch. not sure how you got confused.

reply

Every time a strong, fierce, angry woman comes on screen, some IMDB angry sexist:

"B!TCH!!!"

Seriously? My problem is that she didn't check her facts. If what she believed Will did WAS really what he did, she was just doing her job and probably actually doing a lot of women a favor. I don't have a problem with men hitting and quitting it as long as they're not coercive, because you have every right to try to have sex within decent human conduct. But advising people how to basically use women for sex is pretty misogynistic.

Anyway, obviously it wasn't what Hitch was doing, but put yourself in her shoes. She believed the guy she was in love with had helped hurt her best friend, worked with a misogynist, AND was probably trying to play her. That's not a good position to be in, man or woman.

As a woman,

She was a bitch. Pure and simple, she was vindictive, spiteful, mean spirited a pessimist and if she had been a male she would have been a self centered *beep* Another huge thing is she overlooks her own friends PURE stupidity. Whose fault is it you opened your legs for a guy trying to pick you up while he is banging another woman??
