Hunnams accent was terrible

He's a Geordie. His attempt at a London accent was the worst I've ever heard.

reply

Hahaha, you know he's from London right ? His accent is 100% legit .

reply

The OP is 100% correct. Charlie is not from London.

reply

I didn't know he was a Geordie but I thought his Dick Van Dyke impression was pretty much spot on....

Ancient post, but that's the nature of the internet. Everything stays in some shape or form.

That said, I always figured Hunnam was from Newcastle, and not a Londoner.

He says he was born and raised in Newcastle, anyway. As does his biography and Wikipedia.

reply

Agreed, it was all over the place.

Krunchy - I take it you're not from the south of England otherwise you would know his accent wasn't authentic.

"STAN YER GRAN AN FOIGHT!!"

It was almost Dick van Dyke bad. In fact in some ways worse. At least van Dyke was moderately more consistent with his accent.

Hunnam's accent took me out of the movie. It wasn't just his accent though it was also the use of rhyming slang and other slang that was used incorrectly in places too. You could tell the script had a Hollywood hand in it.

reply

Too right, in fact the only time he nailed it was 'OY OY?' and to be fair a Syrian straight off the boat could manage that!

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

reply

literally rewatching it atm for the first time in years and his accent is HORRIBLE. his acting is pretty awful as well. who knew he'd be able to do an american accent better than a london one.

reply

He sounds more like an Aussie than a Londoner
