one of the best shows

The production costs were too high; a shame, really. But the money was all up on the screen. This series was first-class all the way, a rare combination of vulgar, violent, engaging, beautiful and classy. I recall that, when it debuted, the show runners said something to the effect that they were tired of seeing the city of Rome depicted in movies as this immaculate white city. Great cities are anything but immaculate. Great cities are fecund, profane and vulgar. This is why the Vatican is a separate nation.

Everyone connected with this show deserves to be proud. Bravo!
