Better or Worse than Scream? - Cry Wolf (2005) Discussion

Scream changed the horror genre. Plain and simple. Arguably one of the best horror films. The horror "rules."

Cry_Wolf sets out to show the horror genre that you can actually have a well written script, have good actors, and avoids the cliches that horror movies have to have.

CW is way more underground and is slowly gaining new fans way after its release.

Scream didn't change the horror genre nor did it bring anything new to the table. I guess you could say it revived the slasher movie (spawning dozens of inferior copycats). I always found Scream to be fun, not scary (and I'm easily scared LOL).

I always saw both as 2 different kind of movies, both with teen characters, Scream as a horror slasher film, with all the must-have cliches and Cry_wolf as a suspense film with some (SOME) narrative elements of "The Usual Suspects"...

This is a hard one to decide I'd have to see both thems again to really decide. Though right now I'd have to go with Scream, but Cry_Wolf is still high on my list.

this, i was extremely dissapointed at. as i was watching it i could see scream comparisons, however as someone on another board here said, this is not horror- its a dull thriller. scream is one of the best horror movies of all time, enough said

scream- 9/10
cry_wolf- 5/10

You're ignorant. Scream is hailed by critics as one of the best horror movies ever made.
It's also one of the most successful horror series ever made.

I love both. I think Cry_Wolf is a solid 7/10 while Scream is a 9/10 but still I can't stop thinking about Cry_Wolf.

you are the stuidest person in the world... cry wolf is hardly remembered after 4 years, and scream is considered to be the revitalization of horror... cry_wolf is a below average "horror" flick (it isn't really horror at all) for the 13-14 crowd... for something with a similar concept check out the original "April Fool's Day".. either way scream is exponentially better than cry wolf

crywolf is not a good movie... it is a *beep* masquerading as a thriller masquerading as a horror... i cant see anyway it is justifiably better than a 5/10...

scream is a landmark horror film, and without a doubt one of the best slashers of all time (i cant see anyone able to make an argument accept with holloween)

I liked Cry Wolf, watched it last night and I genuinely enjoyed it. Made for a great thriller come horror film, but it's got absolutely nothing on Scream. Scream is one of the all time best horror films and breathed new life into a genre that was losing its way. (Though tbf, it also spawned numerous other bad films trying to follow its act).

scream is a solid light hollywood hack n slash movie with some added insider gags. nothing great and nothing classic about it. it did not do sh!t for the horror genre, not to speak of changing it the slightest.

crywolf comes from a completely different angle, except for the dying teens, but that's where similarities end.

Scream is one of the most successful horror films ever made as well as one of the highest regarded critically.
It did indeed change horror, essentially bringing back the slasher flick with creativity, humor, genuine scares and a very clever whodunit.
Know your horror, dumdum.
