The original had no gags....think about it

The only thing the original had was Peter Sellers acting silly. And that whole Hollywood chase scene at the end was awful and never ending. And you should also keep in mind that it was intended as a series of films featuring David Niven as The Phantom. The re-make was better written and had some VERY funny gags. Hail Steve Martin.

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

This is a joke, right?

"Nothings gonna change my world!"

You don't have a clue. The scene with Capucine hiding David Niven and Robert Wagner from Peter Sellers in the bedroom/bathroom up through the point when he pops the bottle of champagne in bed is one of the funniest sequences in any movie, ever.

This in NO WAY contradicts anything the original poster said, except maybe the 'no gags' thing. It still qualifies as 'Peter acting silly', which was the original claim anyway.

Look, I appreciate Sellers' genius and the older movies as much as anyone, but let's face the facts here, without Peter doing silly stuff in front of the camera, who would even watch that movie, and HOW BORING would it be??

You have a bit of a point, there.

Peter Sellers = fun and entertaining to watch and listen, you feel the plot is going somewhere, the story is going forward.

No Peter Sellers = boring bits that make you yawn, sleep or vomit, if not all three, and you can't WAIT to get to a Peter Sellers-part again.

You just _HAVE_ to skip any part of the movie that doesn't have him doing fun stuff in front of the camera.

It's like the ENERGY LEVEL fluctuates from 100 to 0 when Peter vanishes from the screen, and back to 100, when he's in front of the camera again.

Also, the original DID have gags, many of them, like the 'follow that car'-stuff, the coat gag and others. The interesting thing was that the woman actor had really hard time not laughing whenever Peter was near her, and you can tell.

I doubt ANYONE had the same experience with Steve Martin on the set of THIS movie.
