Wonderful scene in an amazing film. Anton's speech after wards capped the emotions off perfectly.

That was one of the most moving scenes I have ever experienced in a film. It brought back memories of my mother's cooking and stuff and I longed to be back in home. That scene was the icing on this peach of a movie and quite a few here concur. Why would anyone laugh though!!

Indeed, thsi scene was very well done and shows Pixar's capacity of creating real developed characters in short scenes. Something they pushed even further to exceptional results in Up.

Because of scenes like this, Pixar are the best at what they do.

It was a truly masterful scene. Ego's monologue/review was wonderful, and really befitting with the end of the film. Loved it.

I loved that part, it made me tear up a little. Good thing I watched it at home and not at a theater. I have no idea why anyone would laugh at that scene, it was beautifully done.

It's the age old saying "No one cooks food like your own mother."

Parts of that scene I love are...

Ego's mother running her hand over his chin. Just a little touch that says everything will be alright.
The way he drops the pen and then a smile spreads across his face and he takes another bite and shivers with pleasure.
His final review.

Yeah, it's a wonderful scene. Such a powerful, believable and touching scene. Changes the way we see Anton, we sympathize and like him from then on, in only about 10 seconds, show Pixars quality doesn't it.

I went to IMDB and came to this board just to comment on this scene. You almost feel sucker punched, because the change in emotion is so abrupt and unexpected. My throat immediately lumped up. By the way, The Simpsons recently spoofed this scene in S23E5, "The Food Wife," although I don't think it was meant to be a reference to this movie specifically.

EDIT: Never mind, I rewatched The Simpsons scene. It definitely was a reference to Ratatouille. The cinematography was unmistakably dead on.

I too teared up watching this scene as I can relate to it. Whenever I go to my parent's place (once in a year, they live very far) and eat something prepared with the same taste as 20 years back, I get this feeling. The smell and the taste, it all comes back and I feel so good about it I cant explain. When I saw this scene, I understood exactly what the write meant.

For me, Its one of the best scenes in any movie.

Definitely one of the most beatiful bits of animation I've ever seen. The absolute highlight of the movie for me. To convey so much with such simplicity, and with such stunning visuals...

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

Welp....I'll throw my hat into this ring. Regrettably, I only saw the movie for the first time yesterday.

The ending is what makes it a truly great film. You're kind of expecting Ego to like Remy's dish and something predictable to happen.....the flashback scene is indeed an unexpected jolt that humanizes Ego and turns the character on its head. I also find it relatatble and it makes you respect Remy's craft.

There might be other Pixar films that have more laughs (not that Ratatouille doesn't have some laughs), but the story is what really makes it great.

It's one of my favorite scenes! :') Amusing, yes, but really beautiful. Ego is my favorite character from this movie.
